  A Restful Place to Stay

  This was our first hotel to visit, fresh off the plane from Amsterdam. The Hotel was about a 20 minute bus ride from the airport in Johannesburg. The check in, for such a large group of people (48 Canadians on a coach tour of South Africa) was efficient, and our luggage was delivered directly to our room's door. The room was huge, with an extremely comfortable bed, and a well appointed bathroom. The balcony looked out on to the serene property, that rims a beautiful pond with a pathway. The dining room was spacious, and you could eat inside, or outside. The breakfast and dinner buffet had ample choices, even for those with food allergies like me. A good place to begin your adventure in South Africa!

  Great place, but if you stay bring your own wine

  Great and consistent service. The room service is quick and excellent. Really nice rooms, well furnished. Generally lives up to a really good 5-star hotel. 2 major deficits. Number one is the bathroom amenities. They still use the old Protea Hotel amenities, which must be the worst in the entire hotel domain. This really is two-star quality.All hotels need to save money, but to put that exceptionally poor stuff in a room??? A five-star hotel with two-star soaps, conditioner, shampoo and body wash. Then the wine prices are exploitatively expensive. I ordered a bottle of the cheapest wine. I got a bottle of Spier. R 95 in a bottle stoor. The Charged me R 308. Bizarre. When you complain about it you are told it is a 5 star hotel??????? My best advice is to visit this nice hotel. Take your own wine and liquor with if you stay there. If you are sitting on the terrace bring dinkies with and only order the soft drink. Then you can enjoy the place to its fullest without being exploited.

  Just gets better love this country Hotel

  We have stayed several times in this Hotel and have always had a good experience. However this time it was better, the hotel has made some upgrades to the lounge area and the lake and garden was immaculate. We were surprised to see we could enter the adjacent dairy farm which was a treat for my son. My wife used the Spa and was excellent although a bit pricey. Food Secice was top quality even with the covid restrictions, we always felt safe and the staff were really attentive. We anted to return on our end part of the trip in December but sadly they were full. This hotel remains a gem!

  Weekend Away during COVID

  We took a last minute break from the City and went to the African Pride Irene Country Lodge- 35 min from JHB. Booked 2 rooms - Forest view, large , spacious rooms and bathrooms- felt like we were in a tree house. The hotel was not full but the staff went out of their way to make sure that everything was up to standard whilst constantly adhering to all Covid protocols. The diary farm across the road is an added bonus easily accessible, a lovely Resturant and deli shop. Very child friendly too. The hotel has kids activities, a beautiful lake to walk around and lush green gardens. All in all a fantastic weekend. A big thank you to Thuli and the staff for excellent service and making it special.

  Not worth it

  This hotel is located on a very beautiful property with a lake. It does have some fine views but unfortunately there were a few things quite frustrating staying here. Firstly, the cleaning staff were shouting and making lots of noise at 8am around my room while I was still trying to sleep. When I wanted to order room service they didnt pick up the phone for 20 minutes and I ended up not ordering any food that night. A few sockets were not working in my room which is very frustrating. Later, they did however come and test my phone, and brought me a complimentary carrot cake. I also think their menu is way too overpriced.
