    wouldn't choose again

as we arrived from the air port in the early morning around 4 and nobody seemed to know that we had a room booked in their hotel. the receptionist hardly spoke english and only gave us the key after a long discussion. she insisted on paying the money for the stay on the next day at 9 in the morning(!) however they fairly gave us a discount for the first night counting it as a 'half-stay'. there was no mineral water we could buy.  the room was big but not really clean with a few cocroaches in the bathroom.  the breakfast was something you better should not consume...  the staff during the day time spoke english and were all friendly, especially the concierge(?) who always helped us to negociate the taxi prices.

Not a hotel for business travellers!!!

The criteria of what a good hotel is for a business traveller is different from that of other travellers. As a frequent business traveller (at least 110 days a year), I can forgive stained carpets, frayed edges of lampshades, shabby surroundings, bad service, bad breakfast etc. - but no internet connection, is absolutely unforgivable - specially when it is advertised in the hotel's website that there is free wifi. When we arrived in this hotel, the first thing we asked for is access to the internet. The reception said "Sorry, they are fixing it and we will have internet tomorrow". Arriving at 12 PM in the evening from Minsk - tired and weary and were just ready for bed - we believed it and on top of that we were conned into paying our stay in advance for 7 days. Everyday, we asked when the internet will be fixed, "sorry, maybe tomorrow". Just imagine, the head office getting furious because we could not answer emails on our first day in Tashkent. Luckily, we were attending a three-day conference in another hotel, so during the day we had internet access. However, at night when we got back to our hotel and it was time to touch base at home, we could not use skype and had to use mobile phone, which was very expensive. So, after 7 days of pre-paid stay, we moved to another hotel with access to internet. Otherwise, I would have to wait till I got back to Brussels to write this review. The website also promised an outdoor swimming pool. The pool was green with algae and looked like a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The breakfast was scanty and not much to choose from. There is rice, pasta, boiled eggs, fried eggs, 2 hot dishes, some slices of fruit, some bread and of course tea and coffee. if you come later, there is not much left to eat. The serving dishes in the buffet are not refilled. There are only two mitigating circumstances which prevents me from rating this hotel experience as terrible: the friendly staff from bottom to top and the beatiful rose garden, i.e. if you can close your eyes to the dirty swimming pool in the foreground. I had a room facing the street - rooms facing the rose garden are more quiet. So, if by any chance you are waylaid into staying in this hotel - ask for a room farthest from the elevator to avoid the noise of guests passing through the corridor. One of my colleagues had a room just beside the elevator and the stairs and she was bothered a lot by the noise of guests coming and going. One of the reviews of this hotel wrote about cockroaches - I was on the lookout for them. Fortunately, I did not see any, but the carpet in the bathroom was very dirty though. No amount of cleaning can remove the stains. Definitely a hotel experience not to be repeated in my case. I will not recommend this hotel, not even to my worse enemy.

    what a rip-off

When you have cheap rate, you don't expect much, but when you pay $130 in a country like Uzbekistan, you expect something nice. This hotel is really dated, the staff is indifferent at best and the rooms are old, ugly and not comfortable (don't expect a comfy bed anywhere, Uzbeks sleep on wooden planks, apparently), the carpet had not been vacuumed and the towels in the bathroom had a dubious smell. There is no light on the bedstand, just a bright neon-like light on the ceiling of the bedroom, and the switch is by the entrance of the living room ! We were only given the password for the wi-fi in the lobby. We had a Deluxe Room, but there was nothing luxurious about it or the hotel. We left after one night, to relocate at the Ramada Tachkent, which was only $10 more expensive, and exactly what you expect from a Western hotel (nice room, continental breakfast, friendly staff, etc.). I recommend that you book a driver to pick you up at the airport when you arrive in Tachkent (book it with the hotel for $35 or a travel agency like Advantour for $15)
