Sweet place with the nicest staff

Had a lovely stay at Eco Villa. We picked a place a little outside of the hustle and bustle of the center, but still close enough to go out for a night. The rooms were spacious and clean, the beds were super comfy and the food was amazing, but the one thing that really makes this place stand out is the staff

    Definitely Oversold To Us

This is going to be a rather strange review because I feel that my experience is not the hotel's fault but this place was oversold to us. We thought we had found such a gem for such a small amount. The reviews were great, pictures amazing, we researched, high star rating etc but it was honestly too good to be true. I came here with a friend for a 2 week holiday. .....First Impressions..... We had a tuk tuk collect us from the airport. This was my first time experiencing his side of the world and my first time travelling in a tuk tuk so it was a great first experience. The hotel is down what looked like an abandoned walkway. It seemed at first there was nothing down here, it's quite tucked away. When we got to the hotel it seemed awfully quiet. The vegetation had overgrown. It looked like a little Eden. There was no one around except one member of staff who was draining the water feature. There were a few dead lizards and fish in the feature which was a little unsettling. We were given drinks on arrival which was really sweet but they didn't taste nice. We were also promised fruit and water but that didn't happen. The reception staff were friendly but the English seemed extremely broken. Considering this was sold to us as an English speaking hotel, it was difficult to communicate. .....Room..... We got up to our room and it was okay. I think they could have done with a bit of upkeep. There were a number of small things that I found wrong. For example, there were cracks in the walls, the mastic needed redoing around the bathroom, the bath looked like it needed a deep bleach to get the colour back, the sink was coming out, the tap wasn't attached, the bedding had stains, the towels were rock solid. The was really hard and so were the pillows. The TV got okay reception with a few English channels. The WIFI for me was awful. There were so many things that I couldn't access for some reason because it was blocked. My friend didn't seem to have the problems that I was having but this was annnoying. There was a big gap in our door which let in critters, again, unsettling when you wake up to have five lizards sculking around the room. The balcony was okay but the seating was not comfortable at all. .....Pool..... The pool was okay. It seemed clean and it looked like they regularly maintained it. However, there were only six sun loungers and I don't see how that can accommodate all of the rooms. Maybe this hotel doesn't get busy enough to need more loungers but even if it did, there just wouldn't be the room so I wonder what they would do if there were more than six people wanting to lay by the pool. Also, covered in ants, not their fault but it does bug you... ha, get it, bug? .....Bar..... This is where it really fell short for me. For a hotel that states that it is an English speaking hotel, trying to get a drink from the bar is a nightmare. All they want to give you is coke. Ask for a Fanta, and you will be asked if you want coke. "Coke?" "No, Fanta please." "Coke?" "Fanta, orange one?" *gets out coke "Sorry, Fanta please, the orange one there?" "Coke". I sound so horrible but again, being told that the drinks that they make are outstanding in their description, we couldn't help but get slightly annoyed. Especially trying to ask for mixers. They do not understand mixers. Rum and coke? Together? Nope. Even asking for a glass of rum and a glass of coke, could not get it. Couldn't get water, even pointing to what was stated as water on the menu. Don't order a cocktail because they don't know what they are doing. If you can't make cocktails that is fine, don't put them on a menu. We occasionally got poolside assistance which was nice but this was rare. I think if this is going to be a thing that is put in their description then it needs to be a constant, not one day on, four day break then another day on you know. Again, we seem to get this a lot with hotels, bars cannot understand that sometimes customers want to pay for things on the go and separately. My friend and I wanted to pay for what we ordered but they really didn't understand it. They kept wanting us to pay at the end of our holiday. My friend and I never do this because it gets confusing. Eventually when we agreed to sort it at the end of the day. One day there was no one at the reception to sort this out and we were travelling to Phnom Penh for a few days so we left it. When we came back, at first they could't find our receipts and were asking us what we ordered.... How are we meant to remember and then they tried to give us receipts for days we weren't even in Siem Reap. Definite organisation needs to be done here. .....Food..... There is not a lot of variety for food. If you don't want Cambodian food then you want to eat elsewhere. I have to say the pumpkin soup was delicious but other than that, that is the only thing that I enjoyed here. The pictures of the food that are given and what you are given on your plate do not compare with each other. There are about 10 dishes on the menu that never change so if you cannot find something you like, it is kind of tough. The breakfast was okay but the mushrooms are shiitake mushrooms and not what you expect. The yogurt was okay and the fruit was nice. I did enjoy the toast and pancakes. Just was all kind of bland. .....Overall..... The thing is, I don't want to blame the hotel at all really because it wasn't like it was a terrible experience that we had or that the service was shockingly terrible, I just feel that this place was definitely oversold to us. This hotel does not speak English. The one person who could kind of speak English was quite broken. We had a nightmare trying to communicate with the staff here. I even tried Google translate and even that didn't help. Please don't sell this hotel as English speaking when it isn't! I don't see how this can be a family hotel. There is no nightly entertainment, there are no clubs for children to go to. Unless kids want to sit around all day, I imagine they will get extremely bored. Do not agree that this is a four start hotel. Three maybe. I'd rate it higher if the towels weren't made of led. Get new towels please. We booked this through Booking.com I believe and these are the things that were featured on the website that were not there. - Bidet - Snack bar - Gift shop - Shops - Mini-Market - Massage -Spa facilities - Foot bath - Salt-water pool - Beauty services - Cooking class - Movie nights - Live music/performance - Golf course - Happy hour Funnily enough, this seems to have changed to "off-site" since we came here so maybe this has been updated, thankfully. I won't say this is the hotel's fault because it seems that this is only on Booking.com but be warned. It is a very basic hotel with very basic things. Honestly, I think this hotel has a lot of work that needs to be done. It's very basic. I won't condemn the place because of the price that we paid for it but again, overselling and I blame booking.com for that. If you are looking for a budget hotel, then this is the place for you. I wouldn't recommend anyone coming here.

    Very pleasant stay

The stay with my friends in this hotel was very pleasant. The rooms are comfortable and clean. All the staff are available and nice. The manager is accommodating and present for a welcome, even very early. Nothing negative to say. I highly recommend it !
