Style Holidays - Galini 2 Villa - Chalikeri - Fiskardo - KefaloniaLate booking and not knowing where we were going to stay always starts a holiday wih a little intrepidation! We had no cause for concern this time around. We booked with Style Hoildays, were offered a good deal on a private villa with its own pool and near to amenities. What we recieved was amazing - an upgrade to a three bed villa [ there was only the two of us], great little brand new Micra - so new it had no numberplate! The Villa we stayed in was called Galini 2, there was suprisingly a short distance away Galini 1. Our villa was immaculately presented, stone exterior, lovely interior and so spacious - ideal for the intended 6 occupants plus a baby! The terrace overlooked a pool that was in excellent condition. There were sun longers, umbrellas and of course a large pergola for some shade. A huge BBQ ready for some DIY dinners was also available. Inside there is a double bedroom with opening doors facing the pool and a twin bedroom facing the garden. In between there is a huge shower room with WC, sink and bidet. Both of these bedrooms shared this bathroom and they also had the addition of a sink in each bedroom. Lovely matching pine furniture throughout and plae bed linen just added to the effect of clean, tranquility. The master bedroom also had doors tot he terrace and overlooked the pool. [must remember to add all the windows were opening and all had mesh screens to keep the bugs out] The master bedroom had its own bathroom, with bath, shower, bidet, sink and WC. All finished really well. The beds are all on the firm side - so if soft and fluffy beds are your thing be warned. The kitchen had a Bosch diswasher, full size oven with hob over, large fridge freezer and in an outside room a washing machine with soap powder included! You need your own dishwasher tablets though! The kitchen is part of a large open plan living area separating the bedrooms and the master suite. Nice if you have kids and want some grown up space and privacy. The longe has sofa's and tv / dvd player - a few English books and a useful guide to the island. Maid service was supposed to be three times during our stay - we only had one visit and really as everything was so lovely we didn't need her. Pool man comes daily to catch fallen leaves and bugs for you! Location was great for the two of us although you did need to use the car to go anywhere at all. We were in a small place a few km in from the sea and down a little lane. Our garden overlooked a small vegetable plot, some sheep and you could see the Greek owners from time to time collecting veggies for dinner or tending their plants with a hosepipe. The sheep had lovely bells that sounded like wind chimes, the cockerel did what he does best from about 4am - although you don't really hear it as the place is double glazed... between the trees you get a glimpse of the sea and this is lovely. Galini 2 is adjacent to a tiny lane to two other homes, the most traffic we saw was two cars around tea time. Galini 1 was just above our villa and also private. If you want to skinny dip - feel free - nothing to worry about here. In Manganos are the nearest supermarkets, there are two! Both sell all the basics and fruit and veggies. There are two tavernas here too. Must eat at Thodorotas Panorama Taverna on the way into Fiskardo - great home produced food and fresh - not re heated as in some of the tavernas. Lovely views of the area too. In Fiskardo so many places to eat - try Irida's for top quality food at a price though - it is worth the money and the free extras at the end of a meal make you feel valued! Seafood risotto or pasta went down well for us. Try the balcony at Theodora's cocktail bar for a lovely birds eye view of the harbour - great coffee, and you get to people watch. The harbour here in Fiskaro is the sort of place you can sit with a good book, a coffee and a large sunshade and spend easily all day watching the world go by - the yachts that come in are lovely to see and sometimes famous people bring their huge ocean going boats in for dinner too... Hire a motor boat in Fiskardo - it is great to get out to sea and still feel safe - cost us 6o ero for the boat for the day and 18 euro fuet - remember fuel is extra. Great service - our boat had a minor fault develop and we needed to call them for advice and within munites a motor launch was with us and fixed the problem - so the back up is there if you need it. All beaches are pebbly and you need beach shoes to paddle in - good ones that protect your toes as there are sea urchins too! Overall the most wonderful thing we discovered is that you can really get a holiday away from all the stresses of the life at home in a warm sunny friendly place - at late notice and to a high specification. I would recommend Style - their tour rep Louis was a huge source of ideas and information - always on hand and knew the best places to eat, didn't push tours or Greek nights - and as he lived locally knew the place with a passion.

Wonderful place to stayHave just got back from a week at Galini apartments. Beautifully clean and very spacious rooms but more importantly Vikky and Jean, the two English ladies who run the complex were so nice. Very helpful with information about where to visit....especially useful as though this was a Thompsonfly holiday we never saw a rep from leaving the airport to getting picked up again a week later! Vikky and Jean were a mine of information about the island and always seemed so interested in what we had been up to each day....even though they had probably heard it all a thousand times before! The pool area was clean and spacious and the bar snacks that we bought were very good and value for money. The pool was really big and, I am told, 10 feet deep (I didn't actually go in it!). If I went back to places I had been to then I would go back to Galini.

Excellent Accommodation but Air-conditioning needed!Having read other reviews on this site I was quite convinced that the Galini Apartments would be as described and a safe and comfortable place for me and my teenager daughter to have a holiday - and I wasn't dissappointed with the comparisons to reality The apartment accommodation was excellent spatially and very clean and well maintained. The pool was lovely, one of the nicest ones in the area, the bar was well stocked and attractive, internet access was available at reasonable charge and there was a large LCD/Plasma TV for general use (though sport predominated as everyone seems to think that all that English people want to watch is soccer) The staff were very competent, welcoming and very friendly and helpful indeed, spoke good english and mostly were from England. Taking a 14 year old daughter abroad can be a little worrying - (is the area safe? - is the accommodation safe?) and on these grounds I can thoroughly recommend the Galini, and Katelios as a whole, though if you are looking for lively nightlife, then this isn't the place. But if you are looking for a safe and comfortable relaxing holiday in superb scenery with friendly locals in an atmosphere that isn't yet over commercialised then this is the place. The only downside for us, and a major one, was the lack of air-conditioning or comfort cooling in the apartment. The place was stifling at night and because of the external balcony access the windows to the lounge/living area could not be properly opened at night. Even when they were, both the living area and the bedroom were exceptionally noisy as the main road serving katelios and the skala resort was only about 50 feet away and the traffic noise in the early hours of the morning was very disturbing. Fans were available but having to pay to hire them on top of suffering the lack of proper ventilation added insult to injury, and despite the fans I cannot remember having such disturbed sleep anywhere (Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia and Florida included all at high season). The owners need to invest some funds to provide portable air-conditioning units rather than just fans, or to install proper packaged air-conditioning units and then this place would be very much better. Other apartments however do offer air-conditioning, so initially I felt quite annoyed, but on checking further, these other places charged quite astronomical prices to 'switch it on' so unless someone is willing to pay quite a lot more for aircon, then I suppose it is unfair really to criticise the Galini for not having it - it would just have been nice to have the option and pay the extra on some nights. We hired a car from Kostas at Venus car hire (150m from the Galini) and toured the island and this is well worth doing (reasonable rates, no deposit required, and almost brand new car) - and the aircon in the car was a huge benefit. A VERY professional hire company and so nice to hire from local and not a multi-national Local restaurants serve a range of cuisine including english based dishes but for those like us who like to sample local food, then the seafood and greek dishes (albeit a little westernised) were excellent - and after trying several restaurants on the first few days we settled on Captain Jerry's on the beach edge and didn't bother going anywhere else... the seafood was sublime, the location similar, and the service superb

NICE APARTMENTS, SHAME ABOUT THE POOLThe apartments are nice and clean, The pool however was drained at the time of our stay due to a leak, we therefore used a pool bar located below the Galini which was fantastic. As the pool was empty there was a 10ft drop into it which was not sectioned off for saftey issues because of this we did not feel that we could use the Galini'sother facilites as it was too dangerous with young children aged 3. The location of the apartments is great and Katelios is a lovely place.
