  economic and comfort hotel near Shinagawa JR Station

  pro: the room is clean, comfort and small, but very space efficient. you get everything you need for a good night sleep. free breakfast provided. just across the west exit of Shinagawa JR Station, about 3 minute walking distance, very convenient location to transit trough Tokyo, Yokohama and Haneda international/domestic Airport. the price is very attractive after enrolled as member and got 5%-20% discount. very friendly receptionists. con: the free Wi-Fi in the room is very unstable.

  Clean nonsmoking room

  When making your reservation, make sure that your room is nonsmoking. After that, the Toyoko Inn staff will take care of everything else. Breakfast is fine and ample. We arrived before check in, but the staff will care of the luggage while you sightsee. Check out is early - 10 am, but that gives you time for other activities.

  Amazing location

  Amazing location. Near from haneda airport, and only few minutes walk from tennozu isle station. They provide free shuttle bus to shinagawa station every 15" so you can go anywhere. Near minimarket also, just need to cross the street if u get hungry in the middle of the night. The room were very small but still enough if you just need to sleep. Breakfast has the same menu everyday. Still ok for me. They also provide print station in the lobby if you need something to print. (-) check in time 16.00 and check out time 10.00. Too early for me haha

  Very basic

  Tiny room with no cupboard space. Dining hall looks like school dinners. Does not cater for European palates. Found 2 other Toyoko Inns similar. Only reason to stay would be if price was exceptionally cheaper than competitors

  Peaceful location; bring your Japanese phrasebook

  FIRST TIP: For those new to Asia (Japan especially), the rooms are small relative to Australian or American or some European standards. (If you're from Amsterdam, you'll feel at home here). Also, the staff does not speak any language other than Japanese. Just for fun I tried the six Western languages I speak and Chinese: no response. I can't think of a hotel in a capital city where I have stayed in the past ten years where hotel staff doesn't speak at least ONE foreign language. SECOND TIP: Toyoko Inn is a big international chain, with membership benefits. If you're staying more than five nights, you will save money by joining their club (you'll get a member id card while you are there). THIRD THIP: The best part of this hotel is the locale: the neighborhood is very quiet. I can remember being in hotels in Munich, Paris, and other cities where I couldn't sleep for the noise. FOURTH TIP: there are at least seven hair salons/barbers within short walking distance. I had some down time, so I got my hair cut. FINAL TIP: Don't count on going to a gym here. There are two 24-hour gyms (one within five minutes of the hotel by foot); however, there is no such thing as a day pass if you show up in person. And there is no staff with whom to negotiate; it's all automated. Even when staff are present (11am-7pm), their hands are tied.
