Horrific Avoid at all cost!!Party of 4 stayed in two double rooms on Monday 6th July 2020. This hotel is filthy!! The reception is run down and needs a good clean. The stairs and corridors have a foul sticky carpet and the smell of decay and dirty frying oil hits you as soon as you come through the front door. The bannisters and doors in the corridors are filthy the glass on doors had not been cleaned in a very long time. Both rooms faced on to the back of hotel and both where vile. Both rooms smelled of dampness. As the rooms where both at the back the smell of dirty frying oil and stale food from the pub kitchen below could also be smelled in the rooms with and windows open and closed. Room decor was not just tired but totally shabby. Net curtains in one of the rooms where black at the bottom with mould. Heavy curtains where hanging off rail and window was cracked. Yes this hotel is cheap but not any cheaper than others on Osborne road. Stayed at the Cairn hotel 5 min walk along the road on the previous two nights for much the same rate as we paid at Whites. The difference between the two hotels (that charged much the same rate) would be like comparing a 5 star hotel in Dubai to a homeless squat. Should have just slept in our car it would have been more comfortable and definitely cleaner. We where all horrified by the state of this hotel and even if they paid me I would never return. The highlight of our stay was when house keeping opened our room door at crack of dawn to clean the room despite the fact the room looked and smelled like it had not been cleaned in years and that we where due to check out at 10am that morning anyway. This gave us a laugh and woke us up nice and early which allowed us to get out of there even quicker. The owners should consider a full refurbishment or close this hovel down all together as the state of the place is just not good enough.

Whites hotel , JesmondMe and my wife stayed here on a Saturday night very nice area in Jesmond about a 10 minute walk into Newcastle the hotel room was very nice and clean bit of a small toilet and shower but dont think youd have any problems with it if your just staying for 1 or 2 nights my only problem with the room was that there was a little slope in the floor by the bed a bit tricky if youve had a couple beers other than that very nice hotel and room

Been Renovated, now a very nice hotelI have used Whites for many-many years. The main reason was it was always the lowest priced hotel in Newcastle and wanted a place to meet my girlfriend discreetly for a few hours. However, it felt very basic and thus it wasn't the sort of place I would want to spend the whole night at. I attended the hotel today in September 2020 and I was very surprised with the additions it has now offered. Firstly, the offer of discounted drinks and food at the bar next door for guests was a fantastic offer. I did not take this offer up this visit but I intend to in the future with them as I will be staying again here after today's visit and cheap drinks is always a bonus. The room I was in - room 102, has been renovated and it now has new furniture, a new (better) bed mattress and multiple mirrors on the walls since the last time I visited a couple of years ago. Best of all was a new 32" flatscreen TV (they used to have either mixture of 14" CRTs or 14" Flatscreens in the room depending on the room you got which were both tiny, terrible and good for pretty much nothing). I used the rooms free wifi on my phone and this was steady and full signal with no dropouts. I hope Room 102 was not just an anomaly and the above is now standard throughout the hotel as these changes were very welcome The improvements to the hotel actually make this very nice and a bit of a bargain and one I will use again for overnight stays now as a result

Good LocationHotel has been refurbished but there were still some bits that had not been touched e.g the door to the shower. However, everything else was clean in my room and very comfortable. I was really happy with the price, and it included a continental breakfast in a small box. There was the option of a cooked breakfast at an extra charge. It is in a lovely part of Newcastle and not far from Newcastle city centre. The only thing that let this hotel down was that it had a Lounge/restaurant which became a noisy pub in the evening. It was not far off being a nightclub. Thankfully it closed at 10.00pm due to Covid-19 restrictions, otherwise I would have lost a lot of sleep. It was a Saturday night, so I don't know whether it would be quieter during the week. The Lounge/Restaurant did not appeal to me at all, it looked quite drab. My friend had a nice room too but the TV did not work properly, some of the channels were missing. However, the WIFI was good. I think the owners need to make their mind up whether they want their hotel to be a hotel, or a pub/nightclub. As it stands, I won't be returning as my sleep is very important to me and I do like to have a nice breakfast in a lovely dining room, which (sadly) this hotel did not have.
