  Excellent and near Truman Library

  We had an fine 2 night stay at this B&B. Jim and Wendy were friendly and very helpful with restaurants. Jim cooked super breakfasts. We stayed in the Westminster suite. Great with an additional sitting room.

  Visit Review

  Jim and Wendy were wonderful hosts. The accommodation were impeccable and the food left nothing to desire. Jim's muffins left you only wanting more. We appreciated being able to enjoy their wonderfully decorated home. Suggest anyone going to that area take the time to relax and enjoy the wonderful accommodations. Wendy's restaurant recommendations were spot on!

  I THOROUGHLY enjoyed the atmosphere and professionalism that was extended to me and both my daughters! I secyred the services of Hawthorne Bed and Breakfast as a weekend gift for my daughter and was NOT disappointed, at ALL! My daughter reported to me that she was treated like a 'Princess' and will ALWAYS remember THIS birthday above all of the OTHERS that were celebrated. I will be securing FUTURE services from Hawthorne Bed and Breakfast based SOLELY on how my daughter was TREATED! I HIGHLY recommend them for ALL 'special' engagements!! WONDERFUL and MEMORABLE experience!!!

  Christmastime at Hawthorn

  My wife & I made our 3rd visit to Hawthorn in early December 2018. When the Christmas season rolls around, Wendy outdoes even her usual great job of decorating the public spaces & guest rooms of the 1900s home. Red & green accents are everywhere you look, and lots of white lights; none of it so much to overwhelm you, but just enough to bring a smile to your face at every turn. The outside of the house is decorated simply but very attractively, giving you a sneak preview of what's in store for you once you step inside. As with our two previous visits, Jim & Wendy's hospitality was outstanding and Jim's breakfasts were delicious. We stayed in the Gillmor Room for the first time, and I found it the most comfortable and spacious of the three bedrooms we've enjoyed (we've previously stayed in the Gallagher Room & the Evans Room). Guests come & go as they please, and the small selection of snacks & refreshments in the common hall connecting the four 2nd floor guest rooms hit the spot for a late snack before bedtime. The house now has two guest rooms on the 3rd floor, so we may try one of those next time. Hawthorn has become our go-to lodging spot whenever we visit Independence, and we wholeheartedly recommend that you stay there at your next opportunity.

  Comfortable

  We had a nice stay here. Our bed was very comfortable. Easy access to water and coffee situated in the hallway outside our room. Breakfast was very nice and filling served in the sun room. Were not much of morning people so being able to sit by ourselves as we get ready for the day was a nice touch. We went to a couple of museums and Wendy suggested a good place for lunch. Going to a Chiefs game that nite Jim offered good traffic advice. Truman house and museum only a few minutes away.
