  a horrible smelly place

  This is the type of hole-in-the-wall apartment, typical for the old town ghettos of Sicily. After a night or two you'll notice that it's located in the dirtiest area of Ortygia. You'll have no window in the only room and will have to open the front door to get some fresh air (forget about privacy), but still NO chance to get rid of the humidity and strong smell of the place. The two never-walked-out pitbulls living at the balcony right above, will keep pissing just in front of your bathroom, making the smell even worse. Neighbors playing loud disco hits ("nossa nossa") all the time. Owner Delia, who was at first very friendly and spoke decent English, suddenly went like "Sorry me no English" when it came to helping us with those problems. A week later she remembered her English again, to inform us that she was not responsible for our problems, to accuse us of being immigrant-haters for having shared our opinion of the area and finally to describe our call for 50% money refund as a normal compensation for such a bad tourist experience and an obvious overprice as blackmail. LOL. It could be funny if it hadn't completely ruined our Sicily vacation. This is a VERY VERY LOW VALUE, not worth 50EUR at all, as for this price you can get a really nice B&B on the island, including room cleaning, breakfast and decent staff.

  Nice apartment in convenient location

  We visited in mid September. The apartment was large, clean, nicely decorated with some useful information leaflets/books provided. It is in a little residential square so you hear dogs barking and people going about their business but it's not too intrusive. It's very close to the Temple of Apollo and les than 10 minutes walk from the main square. There is no main window, but windows in the front doors (which can be covered over) provide enough light. Air conditioning was useful (did not notice any dampness or smell as Nora G seems to have done...). The owners picked us up from the train station to take us to the apartment, were friendly and spoke good English (sorry for our bad Italian!).

  Il Rosone...A GReat Place to stay

  The apartment was lovely and in a great location. The owners were so kind and helpful. They picked us up at the train/bus station to bring us to the apartment and they drove us back on the day we left.

  Fantastic base for visiting Oritiga.

  We stayed in Apartment 2 for 5 nights and greatly enjoyed our stay. The flat had air-conditioning, a fully-equipped kitchen and a modern shower-room. It is located in the heart of old Oritiga, in a little residential street near the daily market and close to the Temple of Apollo. The owners were very friendly and helpful, collecting us from the station and providing us with lots of information about the town. Staying at Il Rosone really made our holiday!

  Great little flat

  A lovely little apartment right in the centre of Syracuse old city. Very clean and well equipped. Very helpful owners. Don't miss the open air gastronomia restaurants that open up for lunch at the end of the market. Fantastic!
