  Was expecting Jack Nicholson to smash down my door...

  This place has so much potential, with its amazing views, but it's WEIRD. The main lodge felt like it was used as the hotel in The Shining and the redrum twins wouldn't have looked out of place in the never ending hallway. The apartments were interconnected and had twin beds only. The food in the restaurant was good and comes with a side of patience as we waited for 1.5 hrs for our lunch. We ended up getting the ice cream to go and ate it in the car as we were running late for our Katse Dam tour. Check out was a nightmare as it took a half hour to get invoices printed. The oddest place I stayed at ever.

  Great for one nights stop over

  After having the worst ride of our life from Letseng-la-Terae to Katse dam. We drove a total of 71km at 11km per hour. The 4x4 route is for extreme 4x4 and cannot be driven by someone without any 4x4 knowledge. NO signs next to the road to warn drivers as we got people who had to turn back. The local children is up until late throwing cars with rocks and rolling rocks in front of the car. They threaten you to give then either money of sweets then they will roll it out of the way. Bad to think what will happen to them in 10 years. Finally got to Katse Lodge at 9pm an was the best feeling to have a hot shower and to feel safe. Upgrades will be a plus point for the lodge! Great opportunities!

  Deceiving pictures

  Very basic accomodation and certainly no tennis courts or pools. The Katse Dam is also an hours drive away so only good thing on premises are the bar but at a price. Dont be fooled that the accommodation is on the dam.

  Fool me once...

  I generally try to evaluate a place according to what I paid, i.e. value for money. Katse Lodge is not worth the more than ZAR 1000/night they charge for accommodation. The lodge has an old dormitory feel.

  Stayed in old engineers houses

  Only stay if you desperate. We were passing through and accommodation was clean but old and run down. There is nothing to do or see in area other than the dam wall visit which we missed due to a tight schedule.
