Outstandingly good boutique hotel for families

Do not hesitate when booking this hotel - it is fantastic. Charming family-run boutique hotel, mainly suitable for babies, toddlers, nursery and primary school aged kids but there is also a room for teens with Wii, table football etc. Indoor climbing wall and padded play area for nursery and school aged kids if they have energy left after ski school. Refurbished last year in a funky Alpine chic style. Immaculately clean and well kept. Rooms vary in size but ours was a suite with a bunk bed room and a large double bedroom plus two shower rooms, balcony had a view of the ski lift, magically illuminated at night. 2700 Euros all in for a week, you could probably stay there more cheaply but we had a hulking great teen with us and needed space. So much full board we couldn't eat everything (even said teenager) - massive breakfasts, lunch buffet with hot food option, home made cake mid afternoon and 4-5 course dinners, all non-alcoholic drinks free all day (just help yourself, including bean to cup coffee machine). Free formula and organic babyhood for tinies, baby bottle overnight cleaning service, free bibs, free swimming nappies. Free all-day childcare if you want it, lovely kids' club with happy and devoted childcarers. Swimming pool (small but perfectly formed) and terrific sauna area/relaxation room with view of the Alps, hotel even thoughtfully provided beers in the sauna fridge (£). Garden has play area including sledges, trampoline, climbing frame, parents sit watching their kids from the terrace. Guest lounge with quirky seats, paperbacks and an open fire, great for a post-prandial cocktail. Hotel has a ski boot room, albeit slightly rudimentary, and a small washing machine you can use, useful for air travellers with minimal luggage and emergency washing needs. (No dryer though). Friendliest hotel I have stayed in since my honeymoon, smiling young women in traditional dress put your holiday at the centre the whole time. Lovely, lovely people. Relaxed atmosphere. Skiing in Garmisch - Resort is high with bonus glacier and avoids snow problems of much of France. Our half term often comes before many of the German ones, so it wasn't too busy. Large traditional ski resort, many ski schools operate there, all bilingual, extremely high standard of tuition. Your pass works over the border in parts of Austria as well. Family discounts on ski passes. Plenty of runs of all types. Excellent snow grooming. If you wait five minutes for a ski lift it's a bad day. We used the Schischule Garmisch and hired some kit (you can even hire entire ski suits if you need to), got two of our own pairs of skis fully serviced in 20 minutes flat in their workshop, bought new goggles in their well stocked ski shop and stored our skis daily in their heated lockers for hire. Caroline in the ski school is English and extremely helpful in helping people organise themselves. The kids were in ski school but we had private tuition with the legendary Mario, who has been a ski instructor for 46 years - we made absolutely massive progress with him. Plenty of bars on the piste to celebrate progress in. Garmisch town - Good for family shopping, Zitzmann toy shop has been an institution for my lifetime and longer. Alpine kitsch in Platz Hirsch. Kaffee und Kuchen in Café Krönner. Sport Conrad for ski gear. Game Stop for teens missing their fix. Casino is practically the only night life. Don't come here for clubbing and debauched apres ski. Town is extremely family friendly. Plenty to do in terms of pottering about if you are a non-skier, full German spa programme as well. Partenkirchen village - part of Garmisch-Partenkirchen area. Scenic, little folk museum shows archive films (we watched an amazing one about the 1936 Winter Olympics). Chocolate shop and factory with tours in Wednesdays, artisanal soap shop, gift shops. This is where our hotel was located. Getting there - Fly to Munich, Innsbruck or Memmingen. We got the train from Munich airport to Garmisch - get S1 or S8 and change to mainline train at Munich Hauptbahnhof, ticket is 23 Euros one way for 2 adults and 2 children. Taxi from station is around 10-12 Euros, or there is a local ski bus (free once you get your Spa Tax cards). It's very easy so not worth hiring a car.

Amazing place for families, excellent kitchen

We stayed here for 6 days in March for a ski vacation with the kids. Two of us needed very special food, strictly gluten-free. We arrived late in the evening but they kept the kitchen open for us to have some dinner. The chef specializes in food allergies, and the kitchen and dining room staff were amazingly helpful and considerate. My son, who is used to not being able to eat almost anything outside, was amazed at the fact that for every meal, they had a special gluten-free dish just for him, to match the other dishes that the other kids got. The kids were simply delighted with the play-room, the air-hockey and ping-pong tables, the heated indoor pool and their ability to walk around the hotel freely, get drinks and snacks from the kitchen and generally be independent around the premises. Our room was clean and spacious, with a bunk bed and folding bed for the kids and a good size room for the parents. The place is maintained to the highest standard. The staff at the reception were friendly and helpful, and answered our questions patiently and pleasantly. The location is a bit far from the city center, but the local bus service is excellent and the hotel gave us a free bus card for our entire stay. We used it daily to travel around town, and even for a free entrance to the town pool which was lots of fun. We recommend this place with absolutely no reservations for families with kids at any age.

    Buen Kinder Hotel

Gracias

    Made for families

We recently travelled to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and stayed at Leiners for four nights. What a treasure. We have three kids (6 and under) and this hotel was truly a gift. We certainly enjoyed the all-inclusive food and drink (non-alcholic) and the child care options. My wife and I were able to go spend some time alone which is a challenge back home with the three little ones. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. The food was delicious and the hotel had many alternate options for those with food/dietary restrictions. The kids had a wonderful time making new friends and enjoying all the games, playrooms, and the swimming pool. All the staff we met were very nice, polite, and professional. The parking is small and does not accommodate all vehicles for the hotel guests but there is plenty of parking available on the street (10 sec walk to 2 min walk) but may be an issue for those with mobility issues particularly during the winter months. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for families and parents who need a well deserved break. We will certainly stay there again during our next visit to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

    Friendly family hotel

Overall we had a great stay at Leiners! Lets start with the best things this hotel has to offer: very friendly staff, excellent location, cable car and bus stop within walking distance, nice walking paths around the hotel and a lovely pool and garden to pass time. The evening dinner (except for the buffet night on Saturday) was nice, but the buffet would benefit from some improvements: 1/ there is almost no organic food available, and as this hotel is baby friendly I would expect at the least organic fruit, veg and milk. 2/ there is only baby food available from a jar, I would expect some more baby or toddler friendly food that is not chicken nuggets, pizza or pasta, but rather cooked organic veg or whole grain options. 3/ the bread rolls and croissants at the breakfast buffet I believe(I could be wrong) came out of a pack (the type you heat in the oven) and were not fresh from a baker despite the fact that Garmisch has plenty of lovely bakeries. The hotel amenities were nice and in order and the rooms were clean- although not very clean. To really hit 5*, the hotel needs to spend more time on details like update the toys and books in the lounge area and restaurant, replace the baby mattress with a firmer one, replace the hairdryers (ours had a piece missing), replace the water bottles and lunch boxes with higher quality products, replace the serving pans and casseroles at the restaurant, etc. These however are details, but those details I believe matter to some of the families this hotel would cater for. Thanks for the lovely stay!
