Very disappointed! Room was nothing like the images advertised on hotel website.

My wife and I had a one night stay at this hotel on Sat 19 Sep. As we were accompanied by our dog we were accommodated in one of their pet friendly rooms. Unfortunately the standard of the room décor and bathroom fell way below what we were expecting. The first few images are of the room that we stayed in. When compared to the pictures advertised on the hotel's website (examples included in this review) you can see a clear difference in the impression given by these as opposed to what we experienced. While conscious that having a dog may have limited us to certain rooms, we still expected something akin to the images shown on the hotel website or at least to be offered a reduced rate for the room we were allocated. I emailed the hotel on two occasions to complain and ask if they would consider offering some form of compensation for what was unfortunately an underwhelming stay which failed to meet our expectations. To not receive any sort of feedback is particularly poor and therefore left us resorting to leaving a negative review.

Shame about the lack of atmosphere

We ate last night at the Merchants Manor. We arrived on a rainy night to an empty hall and had to go in search of someone. We had drinks in a comfortable room but were asked to move to our table as the food was being served. Wed opted for the taster menu. The dining room was large and decorated for Christmas. Apart from ourselves there was only two other tables in the vast space. This sadly is what is must be like for many places during this Covid period. Rather annoyingly the lights kept turning themselves up and down throughout the meal, staff apologised for the irritation but nevertheless it was disturbing. The waiter was charming and went out of his was to make our evening a good experience. The food was delicious, the South African chef brought one of the course out himself, delicious venison. Each course was exceptional and full of originality and flavour.Loved the smoked cauliflower soup. Wines were well priced and the whole meal was very good value considering the level of cookery and presentation. Such a shame about the lack of atmosphere! Reflection of the times

    Anniversary weekend

Stayed at the merchants manor last year, could not fault it, but this year with in 30 mins being in our room the chair leg was found broken sending me crashing to the floor with a mug of coffee, also my daughter reported a drinking glass with large chip and crack, which never got replaced, we booked twin room for my daughters but found a double, when reported to receptionist she said cant do anything today no house keeper on duty, the beds were separated next day when we were out but bed sheets just left on floor not very COVID friendly, also the standard of the breakfast was very limited not good for the price,we had an offer of a free drink or an up grade next year I asked if a possible discount not a lot just something to give us hope it was a one off juring our stay,no contact from the hotel, after messages were left, will not stay there again already booked 4 nights somewhere else in Falmouth

    Perfect Birthday Weekend

We came to Merchants Manor to celebrate my partner's birthday, and just to get away for the weekend before our second baby arrived. The staff were JUST incredible. So so friendly, from the manager Chris who took time to chat with us and make sure our stay was as best as it could be in these challenging times, to Laura and Joe who couldn't do enough to help. It really shows when staff are genuinely happy in their jobs! The breakfast was delicious, we couldn't fault it. We also treated ourselves to the 8 course taster menu and it was some of the best food we have ever had. We will hopefully be able to return next Summer and look forward to it.

    Covid

Had a holiday booked for my mum back in last March, nearly a year later I still have nothing to show for it. No memories of it or money back. This company started so great when I booked as was going to arrange for dinner as well as breakfast for the stay. Come March and obviously it was cancelled due to Covid, I believed I had paid an insurance through secret escapes which it why it has taken so long to figure out why I havent received anything back. I emailed saying that I would like the money back due to the fact I am now juggling my job and taking care of my mum as she going to lose her house, but no. Absolutely no compassion and I am devastated by this, we are all struggling and they are being completely greedy and selfish in holding your money when they should be refunding it. Completely unethical and greedy. So if you want to risk losing a few hundred pounds then its perfect
