    Staff don't smile

After a business meeting in Guangzhou, I decided to have a hot spring vacation in Zengcheng for 2 nights. Pattra Resort is the first hotel I stayed. My room is far from the reception that I need to switch elevator twice. The room is big and the bathroom was huge with a bathtub and a rain shower. Breakfast is OK, but there were too many people and not enough seat. Some of the guest are very impolite. The hot spring is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. It is OK, but again, there are too many people. About the staff, most of them don't know how to smile and some of them are very rude. I think I will not stay in this hotel again.

    Good, but difficult acess

We decided to have a 3 day break and went from Macao to Pattra Resort. It was difficult to get there, as we are foreigners and don't speak good Chinese. Although we called before and asked about a shuttle bus, the hotel told us thee was no shuttle, so we had to take a taxi from Guangzhou. That was a problem! The taxis didn't want to go there and we ended paying 600 RMB for a hired car.It took us about 2h to get there... Te resort itself it's ok, but it's not wonderful. Good rooms, reasonable breakfast. The pools are nice, the problem was that Saturday afternoon they opened it to the outside visitors and it became absolutely crowded - pools with a capacity for 4, 5 persons had more than 20 inside... Overall, it's an experience not to repeat.

    Great decent experience

I strongly suggest to visit it on weekday rather than weekend or public holiday. It has number of hot spring ponds but still unable to cope up the capacity during weekend. Experience wise is great, pure natural hot spring with a comfortable room, relaxing environment. Weather was abit chilling and guess soaking in hot spring is the best way to anti the chill. Didn't enjoy the in house restaurant since there are plenty of local farm restaurant surrounding.

Hyper expensive for China for what is really a 3-4* mountain resort

We came here as part of my (Chinese) company team building weekend. Clearly its aimed at the burgeoning market for themed breaks for rich Chinese. In this respect it probably succeeds. For foreigners looking for a trace of authenticity its probably as real as a Wild West show at Disneyland. The fish ponds around the entrance steam with natural hot spring goodness until you see the steam is really water from vaporisers. Well it has to be otherwise the fish would cook. Rooms are well maintained and clean and I got a good view of the valley with sunrise in the morning. There are signs in English throughout but dont expect many staff to speak it. Check in was terribly confused that I didnt have a recent entry stamp in my passport because its inconceivable that a foreigner with residency could use the e-channels at the border and she had her process to follow. A colleague told her to move on and she did. The main attraction here is the hot springs that are a few minutes walk alongside the hotel. Entry is included for hotel guests who tend to get changed in their rooms and walk through the lobby in the hotel dressing gown which always looks odd (they also go to breakfast dressed like this). We went late at night when it wasnt so busy. Multiple hot baths at different temperatures and flavours. Who knows if it really has any of the claimed health benefits or indeed if theres a fluid ounce of genuine volcano water in these pools but it a way to pass an hour. One pool has fish for your feet but they werent hungry in the evening. Breakfast was fine. Mostly catering for Chinese as youd expect but you could piece together a Western breakfast although the coffee was watery. Despite the good maintenance I can only give this place an Average score for foreigners because its very expensive for what it is and quite challenging for foreigners to engage with it as a place of relaxation. Id go to the Sheraton Dameisha or Le Meridien Xiaojing Bay instead.

    Don't Even Bother

What started as an optimistic trip to hot springs ended in disappointment. The rooms we got was a twin share, which is actually a small apartment converted to a hotel room. First two bottles of water are complementary, after that they charge you per bottle. There are two restaurants on site, both of which are a bit of a joke. The "western restaurant" has 70% of the items unavailable, with 20% of the remainder being of the Cantonese variety. The Chinese restaurant, Golden Imperial Restaurant, also has 70% of the menu items unavailable. It's clean enough though. As for the hotel itself, it advertises a "gym" which consists of a rack of dumbbells no greater than 22kg and incorrectly labelled, and a few basic cardio machines hastily put into a little room. The staff cannot speak English either, so unless you can speak putonghua you're going to be completely lost in terms of communication. Bottom line, the pictures look pretty but like so many things over here it lacks the substance to back up what it advertises to the world. There are 36 hot spring baths, however they're not cleaned or maintained.
