  Fantastic

  We returned to the Coconut Residence after traveling around south East Asia for a few years. This hotel has lost some sparkle, new owners have taken it over. However it retains all of its character, the grounds and rooms are amazing and the people cannot help enough. All the rooms are spacious and clean. The once packed restaurant was empty which was a shame but the food is good. The pools are looked after by Dennis who maintains them beautifully. This hotel while not on the beach is set back off the road and within walking distance of all local shops and the beach. We are planning to come out again in October, we had such a relaxing time we recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

  Charming hotel drifting on remote management

  We booked this hotel for one week in February. Our stay on its own was fine. Most due to a great staff that compensated a lot.. But what is promised as being a 5-Star luxury hotel is far from met. There was clearly a cash flow problem because staff wasn't paid, wine couldn't be bought by the bartender, sober breakfast. We had for several reasons even to contact our Travel agent. The hotel is run by a owner out of Nigeria. A relative of the previous owner even expressed her concern how the hotel currently is running. Will it be there in a few months , who knows. Maybe worth 3 star but not charming luxury 5. In the past times were apparently better.

  If its good enough for Elton John

  I stayed in one of the large duplex villas- probably the biggest and most luxurious I have ever experienced (mainly because I was not footing the bill) and it was simply amazing. What a time I had here, I will never forget it My personal butler told me Elton John has stayed here and I believe it. If you can afford it then its the best place in the area hands down- nothing comes close

  Gracious quiet in The Gambia

  My wife and I lived in The Gambia for three years working for the U.S. government. When visiting dignitaries came, we lodged them at the Coconut Residence. New security regulations for diplomats have changed this practice in recent years, but when I go back, it's still where I stay. I don't need beaches. I don't need to see lots of beautiful (and not-so-beautiful) tourists. I want a quite, gracious place to come back to at the end of the day, where my room is quiet and comfortable, where the food is good, and the staff is attentive but not overly so. Is it perfect? I could quibble, I am sure, since this in The Gambia, not Majorca. But I have no hesitation in saying it is where I'll stay on my next visit.
