Decent hotel, good location, shame they throw you out during the day! This hotel is in an excellent location right in middle of Hiratsuka. It is very clean, and gives everything you'd expect from a business hotel in Japan. The rooms are small but well equipped. No English TV though. Breakfasts are basic and limited to toast or basic japanese. My only complaint was having to be out of my room between 10am and 4pm during my stay. I was there for 5 nights and needed access to my room during the day bug was denied. Annoying.

Good place to stay in HiratsukaWe stayed here for two nights during a business trip to Hiratsuka. The hotel is good... Small, clean rooms for a very good price. The breakfast could have been better but for this price it is okay. The hotel is just some hundred meters away from the train station and easy to reach by foot. I would stay here a second time.

Horrible, uncomfortable, dirty hotelUpon check in, I entered a horribly overheated lobby and was asked by the front desk which days I would like to be "out of my room" from 10AM to 4PM. Eventually (and after much confusion due to my subpar Japanese and their subpar English), I understood that in order to have maid service at this hotel, you must turn in your key and cannot have access to your room for 6 hours. Since I need use my computer for business during these hours, I refused and was told I would have no maid service. Wonderful. For the next few days I a bag of clean towels was hung on my door each morning, but other than that all cleaning fell to me. After check in, I went up to my room and found it to be in a bit of disarray. The clean towels were lying on the bed and in the bathroom floor was a soaking wet, dirty towel. It looked as if the maid had run out of the room mid-cleaning. I went down to the front desk to inform them, and was met with complete indifference. Their solution: I should pick up the disgusting towel myself (!!), and throw it in the hallway, and someone would come by and pick it up the next day. Really?? Also, the room was 90+ degrees when I checked in, and the hallways/lobby/elevators were no better. The hotel clearly does not air condition any part of the building, and even in the room they recommend that you set the thermostat at 28C (82.4 F) in the summer. Haha, really? They expect their guests to keep their rooms at almost 83 degrees? In addition, if you do have maid service (which I did request once) the maid will turn off the AC and you will return to a sauna room, which will take a good hour to cool down again thanks to the small inefficient AC units. Not comfortable at all during Japan's brutal summers. Other points: Room - Small, but average for japanese standards. Decor is a bit old. Bed is as hard as rock, and so are the pillows. No duvet to protect you from the disgusting comforter, just one thin sheet that never stays in place. Bathroom is entirely plastic and you can't use the shower and sink at the same time because they share one pipe. Wifi/internet - They advertise wifi, but it never worked. When I asked the front desk they said it's not good on the floors, only the lobby (website says wifi in all rooms). Wifi did work in the lobby, but would stop working as soon as I stepped into the elevator to go up. Ethernet was provided, but my Mac couldn't recognize it no matter how much I tried (which never happens) so I suspect it wasn't working either. Location - the one plus. Easy walking distance to Hiratsuka station, which has major JR lines (Tokaido). Breakfast - the hotel does include free breakfast, but it's not so good. There is plain toast, soup, onigiri (rice balls), and a rotating main course, which always seemed to be more like a dinner course, such as shumai or heavy brown curry and rice. I ended up buying cereal and milk and having that in my room instead. It's nice that they offer it though, and the other guests seemed to enjoy it fine. Overall, I'm not a fan. I know it's a cheap business hotel, and for many Japanese businessman who are out of the room from 6AM to 11PM, they probably won't notice any of these things, but I've stayed in other Japanese business hotels and they weren't this bad, so I can't give them a pass.

Shonan TanabataHotel are centrally located and convenient to attend Tanabata festival in Hiratsuka. Pleased with the hotel services as I had been staying there during Tanabata festival despite language barrier. Good breakfast especially the rolled egg.

Not enjoyable at allThere wasn't one thing I enjoyed about this hotel. We had chosen it for the location, as my friend lived near it. Upon checking in, we were told that a foreigner (my husband) needs to show his passport in order to stay at the hotel, and this was an absolute requirement. This requirement hadn't been discussed anywhere on the hotel booking site or the confirmation e-mail. Well, I have a JP passport with no Japanese domicile, but they didn't care about my passport. Their free breakfast sucked. Their beds are extremely hard (we prefer firm mattresses, but these were PRETTY HARD!) I mean, this hotel isn't hideous, but I believe there are other hotels that are way better, for additional 10 bucks.
