Good Place to Stay.- Breaking the Myth

My family and friends family had booked one night stay on the 10th of August. There were so many negative reviews on this place, this gave us a little troubled mindset when we booked the room. But when we arrived at the location it was a very good of Surprise. There is a new mgmt. who has taken over the place and done really good work in the renovating the place. There is still work going on in the location, but that is been separated from the places which guest can go. We took two family rooms, which was clean, and the linen was clean. They still need to replace the carpets in the rooms, but they are clean. The breakfast is good, the new owner Arun is an excellent person, very humble and takes care of his guest. All you need is to ask, he would make it happen. We were happy with our stay and all the myth about this place been locked up is no longer valid. Will plan to go back there again. I would recommend this place to stay. I feel by next year this place would get 100% ready for the swimming pool, tennis court, etc which is still under renovation.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff, and some excellent views of the sea

The friendly staff and the excellent sea views are the strong points of this classic, seaside hotel. We booked two rooms (three adults with three children 9-13). Both rooms were sizeable, and had sturdy bunk beds, plus a double bed, and a nice sized bath/shower. Everything was very clean, and our rooms were cleaned/refreshed, tidied and amply restocked with towels, soaps, tea/coffee biscuits, and toilet paper each night. Bedlinen would have been changed too, but we turned that down (no pun intended). Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and we felt genuinely welcome and valued as guests. Full English breakfast came as standard. We were asked precisely what we liked for the 2nd and 3rd mornings, and had two really nice sausages, bacon, fried egg, hash browns, beans, a running supply of toast, jam and marmalade, two big jugs of orange juice (no thimble-full glass nonsense) and 'proper' coffee and tea - we skipped lunch some days. I understand the hotel is relatively recently under new management, has been partly refurbished and is undergoing more. Some of the decor reflects this, but it's typical of many privately owned hotels of this vintage. Be aware that there is no lift, and the best views are to be had on the upper floors, but that helped us burn off some of the breakfast :o) There is ample parking, and the hotel is very well situated. As we were driving away, my eldest daughter said that we had to come back to the Isle of Wight, and that we absolutely *had* to go back to the Ventnor Towers. Result!

    Absolutely atrocious!

Where to start. The advertising for this hotel defies belief. This place is most certainly NOT a hotel in any sense of the word! Its a tip! The poster inside the front door bears no resemblance to what is on offer. To say its tired and neglected is an understatement. The breakfast on offer was, for us, completely inedible! I have never seen scrambled eggs that colour. We passed on breakfast. If we hadnt of paid up front, we would have never stayed there from the outset. I have contacted the council office for the IOW tourist office and I am also contacting Booking.com who are still advertising this awful place with photos from years back when it was a functional hotel. Our family trip with two young boys was ruined. No swimming pool, no pitch and putt, nothing. Only good thing was the very nice Sri Lankan gentleman who was very helpful and couldnt do enough for us but he is working with one hand tied behind his back. I am absolutely hotties that this place is still taking bookings, it is completely unfit for purpose. I am sure it is on the radar of the council as there was what looked like a hotel inspector patrolling on our first day! Dont go!

This hotel has lots of potential! Very friendly owners & very clean.

Hidden away near Bonchurch this hotel has the potential to be amazing. It has lots of original features with a gorgeous wooden staircase and chandeliers. It could be very grand and impressive with significant investment. Currently it is rather tired with dated carpets and decor but none the less it was extremely clean throughout. Our room was on the top floor with a lovely four poster bed and stunning views from the quirky tower! The plumbing was rather odd with hot water coming out of both sink taps and the bath, sparking clean had seen better days. Good bed linen and comfy mattress. Clean fresh towels but they were very small, I would have liked a bath sheet. The family who owned the hotel were warm, friendly and helpful. The big disappointment was the breakfast. We were asked our drink choice and again the service was friendly. We weren't given a choice for breakfast and it just came. The egg was hard, bacon over cooked and the beans were cold. We got a slice of toast each made with cheap bread. For me breakfast is such an important part of a night away, choice is essential and the basic elements need to be good. If you could improve this it would make a big difference. Clearly this hotel provides a big maintenance challenge and refurb and I wish the new owners lots of luck!

At least the staff are nice

....though thats about it. Theyd assigned us incorrect rooms, even though they were checked to be correct on confirmation email. The rooms were basic but reasonable. Clean and fairly comfortable. There was tea and coffee available but no kettle. Breakfast is included but despite effort the resulting cooked breakfast was poor. Mostly very cold and what seemed like the cheapest ingredients. As many have said the hotel is in need of modernisation but some areas such as reception looked nice. There is no WiFi and mobile reception is terrible, bring a book! Views are superb.
