Great location, helpful staff, average roomsThe location of the hotel is great and the staff is very friendly, but the rooms are quite average (especially the bathroom could be better) and some of them are located very high (no elevator). The room we got was big, but not that cosy and it could have been better maintained. It should be underlined that the stuff is very friendly and helpful, so if you look for a simple place with a reasonable price close to the very center of Torun, this could be something for you.

Oversold but under deliveredApartment 4s was aesthetically pleasing and conveniently located close to old town. The bathroom was usable, I'm not a huge fan of having my shower without any dividing glass or curtain between the rest of the bathroom but it was good enough to use until it started leaking outside of the actual bathroom, but hey they gave us a mop so no worries. The apartment was actually a much larger apartment in the past and was converted into two small apartments. In most cases that would be completely acceptable however in this case soundproofing wasn't really a priority at the time of the renovation. During our entire stay we could actually recite every conversation next door include the bathroom schedules. We might as well had shared a bed with the other guests. During our 3 nights stay we had the pleasure of enjoying the noises of a family with a dog, a small child and a very irate wife leaving the apartment at around midnight just after having a very unpleasant conversation with the owner/manager over the phone. The irate woman listed a number of things that were unacceptable, followed by a slammed door never to return again. The following night we had the pleasure of enjoying a 20-somethings year old birthday party with about 10 people crammed inside the tinny apartment, drinking and smoking up the room until about 4 am. Again in most cases this wouldn't bother us but since there wasn't much of a divide between us it really spoiled our experience. We were told that the apartment was heated and had a bio-fireplace, awesome right!? Turns out the bio-fireplace is jut for show and if you want to use it you will have to pay for the gas yourself and according to the staff members it doesn't generate heat. The actual heating system was floor heating which is kind of great when you think about it except, you can't control it from your own apartment. The apartment next door which was hosting the party had the control system so since there were 10 bodies crammed into a tiny apartment it got a little hot over there so the heat was switched off consequently leaving us in the cold. Luckily for us we were given an electric heater, after numerous phone calls with the staff. Turns out the heater was a bit temperamental and only worked when it wanted for about 5 minutes at a time. The "double bed" was hardly a bed. It is actually a very small futon which can fit 1 person comfortable but two regular sized people may be pushing it in my opinion. We opted out for the pull out sofa in the "living room" it was a much better size. We really hope the owner reconsiders soundproofing options and perhaps fixes the leaky bathroom and maybe a real bed....you know the type with a mattress and a bed frame.

A trip back in timeUnfortunately the trip was back in time to the austere eastern bloc days when supplies were thin on the ground and workmanship was dubious. We found what we thought may be the apartments but the lack of name or number on the slightly forboding block meant we were unsure. That it was down a dark alley behind numbers 5 and 7 was the only real clue to where 7a was. All very platform 9 3/4! A phone call back to London to obtain a number for the place later we were able to get hold of someone who asked us to walk to the other side of an unfamiliar town without the benefit of a map or clear directions to collect a key. We managed to persuade them (after some pleading) to come to us in "15-20 minutes". Half an hour later a girl turned up with the key and let us in to a very basic apartment. In estate agent speak 'a doer upper, in need of some care.' Fortunately the wifi, unlike the TV worked and we were able to email our hosts and request some bedding for the spare bed. which we discovered a lack of shortly after she'd taken the cash, and only cash by the way. An apartment with 4 single beds was what we booked, one (very small and very tired) double and 2 couches was what we got. The hole in the wall from which the aerial lead came was a a source of amusement but not one of TV pictures. A couple of light fittings and sockets were a reminder that any Polish sparks worth his garlic sausage had long since left these shores for the bright lights of Sheffield. Basic is what it was, but fortunately so was the price. The heating was a hit and miss affair, and rather like building standards in this part of the world completely unregulated. If you want a cheap bed for the night with a couple of mates then it's OK. The main town is a 10-15 minute walk. For families it's a no and if you want to impress the other half in your life look elsewhere. Torun is not an expensive place and it's well worth a visit. A bit of research will surely unearth closer places to town at a similar rate.

Cheap but looks it !Very basic. Interesting shower plumbing (water runs into main room. Has wi fi but needs modernising and comfortable chairs would be a priority! Sinks are tiny ! Location is fine but without the view of the Vistula river not sure why the entrance to the apartment smells so damp ? Maybe the plumbing...
