    Lovely Tuscan Escape - Spigo

We stayed at Spigo for 2 weeks at the end of June and really enjoyed our holiday. This was our second visit to Zampugna and our first time in Spigo. Zampugna is perfectly placed in the heart of the most picturesque part of Tuscany and is positioned out in the countryside but within easy travelling distance of lots of beautiful villages. We chose Spigo this time as we wanted to be separate from the other apartments. The one bedroom cottage is small but we had no trouble whatsoever with it. There's adequate cooking facilities, plenty of room to store food, everything works and we turned out some fabulous meals. There is plenty of room to store clothes in the bedroom - although making the bed was a bit of a challenge as we're way too used to fitted sheets so struggled to tame the bedding a daily basis! Zampugna is a beautiful agriturismo. But it is just that, an agriturismo. It is not a 5 star all inclusive luxury hotel. That is part of its charm and appeal. Riccardo is an excellent host and looks after all his guests very well. I can see why others prefer to stay in the main building of apartments, as they are much more spacious. However, Spigo was perfect for us. No doubt we will be back again in a few years time.

    Ideal rustic Tuscan holiday base

Beautiful location. Wonderful pool and views from both the pool and villa are fantastic. Accommodation is not a 5 star hotel as one of the reviewers below was perhaps expecting - it's in keeping with typical, rural self catering accommodation in Europe. Fantastically located in between Montepulciano and Pienza. So much to see and do. Montalcino, Sienne and Orvietta all within easy day trips. Great little villages like Montichiello and Montefollonico just a few minutes away. Very helpful and friendly owner in Riccardo - the couple of problems we had, which were minor, were rectified within minutes of a phone call! Would highly recommend.

    Heaven

We have been staying in Zampugna, every year, since 2002. This place is best described as 'Heaven'. The accommodation is outstandingly clean. The owner 'Riccardo' , is the personification of politeness, kindness and geniality. We have many holidays in other parts of the World, with high class agencies, but would never forego our annual visit to Zampugna. A previous, negative, review, on here, has saddened us as the visitors must have been expecting something more commercial, convenient and, may I suggest, modern. This is a holiday place of taste, calm and peace with a huge helping of unspoiled beauty and culture. We will return for as long as we are able to enjoy this slice of Tuscan Heaven.

    A welcome return

We have returned to Zampugna 9 times now and have stayed in several of the apartments the complex offers, all are to a high standard. What make the place special is its situation,it offers totally relaxation and tranquility, it's blissful. Added to this is the owner, Riccardo, he's such a lovely man, so helpful and genuine he makes you feel like part of his family.

    Another amazing holiday at Zampugna

Visited Ginepro in Zampugna again in July 2016 - great time of year! We saw a family of wild boar in the field near the pool and 4 baby hares hopped out from under the rosemary bush when we were BBQing one evening. Once again, the scenery and location were fabulous, Riccardo was welcoming and the weather was lovely. The apartments are rustic Tuscan - don't come if you want 5 star luxury. There are no eateries in walking distance - unless you want to walk several kms in the dark. A car is essential - we recommend Montefolonico, the restaurant in the square, Del Falcos in Pienza and Le Macine on the road to Torrita. We'll be back!
