    A little dated

Stayed for one night, polite staff, very quick check in. Room small but cosy. Nice shower however a little dirty around the edges, limescale etc. Mattress looked quite old on bed and not the most comfortable, too many bottom sheets, made the bed feel a bit lumpy. Besides this nice stay, breakfast lovely and great value. We had one veggie breakfast and one full English. If you want beans with breakfast you need to ask as the full English came without. Didn't get an option of type of eggs but the food was very nice an plentiful. Would stay again but only for a short stay.

    Left hungry!

Stayed here with a friend last night, with breakfast at extra cost. Room was clean but very dated. Got up and headed for breakfast at 9:30 to find the door locked. Staff member answered and told us they had finished serving at 9am. We explained we hadnt been told this on check in. She left and went back to the kitchen, returning to say we could have a sandwich. As we wanted a proper meal we asked if we could get a refund for the breakfast. Again, she left and then owner appeared. Telling us we couldnt have a refund as theyd already cooked our food. Not sure how she knew what we wanted. Dietary requirements etc, but it was in the oven if we wanted a sandwich! We declined as I dont fancy food that had been sat in there for over half an hour! She told us she would of informed us of the food times.... which she definitely didnt! Then got argumentative asking are you calling me a liar! Was rather taken aback by being spoken to like that so we left disgruntled! Funny how she was all sweetness and light when she was taking our money, but the moment we asked for it back she changed her tune.

    Refused a refund

Myself and my friend recently stayed at this guest house, on approaching the building it appeared a little run down and dated but okay for one night. When arriving at the guest house I was greeted with a warm welcome by a lady who I believe to be the owner, full of charm. Whilst waiting for my friend to arrive we were chatting and she mentioned we hadn't booked breakfast for the room and said it would be £8 extra, she said she'd cook us a great breakfast and we could have as much of whatever we would like, I was then showed the breakfast room briefly and then showed to my room. The room seemed comfortable but very dated. On returning to our room to go to bed we realised there was no hot water coming out of the taps/ shower so just decided to go to sleep as it was late. We then set an alarm to go for breakfast thinking it was made to order as this was implied, we then got to the room for 9.30am on a Sunday morning to be eventually greeted by the owner quite rudely saying 'I DID TELL YOU WHAT TIME BREAKFAST WAS', we were then offered a sandwich with meat that had been sat in the oven for half an hour. Myself and my friend decided that this wasn't what we had paid for a politely said that we would go elsewhere and then asked for a refund as we had not got what we had paid for, she then refused saying it had already been cooked and was waiting in the oven- quite unsure how she knew what we wanted? We could have been veggies for all she new! Not wanting anymore confrontation, tired, hungry and unwashed we decided to go home and leave the hotel, the warm welcome wasn't so warm anymore... A nice start ending very sour!!!

    Friendly and helpful customer service

My husband and I were due to stay here this month but due to family illness we were sadly unable to make our trip. Having booked through booking.com we were not entitled to a refund on short notice cancellation. On contacting the guest house to let them know of our situation I was pleasantly surprised to be told by the helpful, friendly chap who took my call that they would waive the fee. We will definitely stay at this place the next time we get a chance to visit Shrewsbury. Many thanks to Abbey Court.

Excellent value for money and near the centre

I stayed here as I was working in the nearby hospital. It was clean, comfortable, friendly staff that served an excellent breakfast. I may be working again in Shrewsbury next year so will definitely return here
