Nice place to stay.

Exceptional staffWe arrived at the Anchor without a booking as we were booked into the nearby Tarbert Hotel which was deserted and still was the following morning. The receptionist quickly found 2 rooms for us and took a booking for dinner. Both rooms were spotlessly clean and seemed to have been recently refurbished, the double room had a view over the harbour which was an added bonus. The standard of both the evening meals and breakfasts was excellent, the smoked salmon and scrambled egg was amazing, All the staff were brilliant and couldn't do enough for us, well done to you all. If and when we visit Tarbert again we will definitely stay at the Anchor again.

Good but needs some TLCMy wife booked the Anchor Hotel at fairly short notice so we were only able to get a room facing the back looking over the restaurant roof and towards some housing whereas the rooms at the front look out over the harbour. No car park, but parking is available on the road outside and opposite the hotel with no charge. Very pleasant check in by a young girl and we went to our room which was larger than expected with two single beds joined to make a double. The room was quite gloomy probably due to a grey net curtain; this hid the window that had brown marks on it that could have been rust. The bathroom looked quite modern with what appeared to be newish basin, toilet, light fittings and tiling. However, the basin tap was loose, the toilet seat was loose and there were rust marks on the toilet below the seat hinges. The shower didnt look new, it needed a new shower hose and the shower head looked as though it had been dropped a few times, water came out of the sides of the shower as well as the holes and the water wasnt hot, colder than, luke warm even though the water pipe was hot, obviously a problem with the mixer tap. We reported this the next morning and were offered the room next door, this was smaller but a lot brighter but the shower worked properly, the basin taps and toilet seat were also firmly attached ! Dinner for 5 of the 7 nights was in the Seabed restaurant, the menu is predominantly seafood but had other dishes as well. I tried several of the fish dishes and they were all very good and plentiful. On the Sunday we had traditional roast, beef and chicken, but they were not very good, we suspect that the food had been prepared for lunchtime and kept warm. The walls are not soundproofed and you could hear guests in the adjacent rooms. At breakfast we were only offered fruit juice from the cold buffet, there was no mention as to what else was available, there was a good selection of hot food and it was freshly cooked, poached smoked haddock with poached egg, , eggs benedict, scrambled egg and smoked salmon as well as a full Scottish breakfast, although one morning I ended up with poached smoked salmon, not what I expected. The food is freshly cooked, plentiful and tasty, particularly the seafood. However, the hotel needs some TLC as the bed sheet in the second room we had had holes in it, light bulbs needed replacing, the problems with basin, toilet and shower in room 4 had not just occurred, paintwork needed touching up, room doors that were sticking needed looking at and wardrobe doors that squeaked when opened need oiling. The staff, mainly young girls are all very hard working, multi-tasking acting as cleaners, receptionists, waitresses and bar staff, but they were all very friendly, cheerful and helpful.

Comfortable harbour view room and tasty foodPaid £10 extra for harbour view room. Worth the money. Very comfortable and relaxing. Staff particularly helpful and friendly. Hotel has been given a makeover and is very fresh looking. Quality of the food in the Sea Bed restaurant was exceptional. Fantastic tasting fish. Large portions.

Wonderfully unique little stayWe stayed a few nights on the barge of the Anchor Hotel, Tarbert. Our room on the barge was lovely. It was spacious enough for the two of us, the bathroom was huge, bed comfy and the view across the harbour from the barge window was amazing. The package of Prosecco and a little treat was brilliant too. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and helpful and could help you with any local knowledge or guidance you needed. The food was delicious. The menu both for breakfast and into the evening was extensive and would suit everyone. The hotel followed all current guidelines and restrictions whilst still making sure our stay was enjoyable. A thoroughly brilliant little trip.
