  Welcoming and efficient

  This was a short, two night stay with two adults and a dog. We were put in a family apartment, which was nice and clean with a little cooking hob and fridge. It's a nice clean hotel, spacious and airy. Comfy beds and clean linen. The bathroom was clean and all the facilities worked fine. It says 3 stars on the door and I think it's good for a 3 star. There's a gym, sauna and solarium but I didn't have time to use them, and the little bar area was nice and quite busy when we checked in on the Friday night. The surrounding area is very quiet, and seemed safe. I walked the dog and found a small woodland area, but apart from that it's just houses. We could hear the main road at night but it was fine for a short stay. Breakfast was good - the usual buffet of assorted cereals, juices, cooked bacon/eggs/sausages, a selection of cheeses, cold meats, croissants and pastries, fruits, the ubiquitous fizzy wine (for breakfast?), all sorts of juices and waters as well as teas or hot chocolates. The coffee was dreadful, but hotel coffee usually is! The lifts & entrance doors don't work before the receptionist gets in at 6.30 or 7am, and the only way out is through the night door, which you might struggle to gain access back through if you're out walking early! The Wifi is free but was very slow on my android phone. The only English TV was BBC World, if you like watching TV in English. All in all not bad for a flying visit!

  Clean, but not luxurious and no air conditioning.

  Stayed here for one night in a family room with multiple beds. The hotel and room itself was clean, however, none of the rooms have air conditioning which was frustrating since the weather was hot. The rooms have fans in them, but we asked for another one due to the size of the room. The staff was friendly and obliged. Also, the breakfast buffet had enough options and tasted good.

  Service and convenience

  Being located in a city which represents the epicentre of traditional medieval fachwerk buildings, the standard oversized rooms, some with kitchens, and amenities are a very nice modern contrast. currently some parts are being rebuilt, nevertheless, service, breakfast options and bar are very up and running. we had a lovely relaxed stay. in walking distance to historic town, heinrichshütte and museum

  Beautiful Old Town, Good Hotel

  Stayed here in an apartment room. V good. Nice hotel, bar, restaurant and staff. Small sauna and gym room. Lovely "old town" with half timbered buildings- rare to find. Well worth a visit if you are in Westphalia

  Visit to a charming medieval town

  Spend 4 days in the Avantgarde. Plus points. Great selection at breakfast. Every type of food conceivable, fresh and in abundance. Staff were extremely helpful. Nothing too much trouble and always available to assist. Room clean and tidy however a step up on the quality of the bath towels would not go amiss Just a little on the pricey side however would visit again.
