    Gran desilusion

Chia Hotel Baia v Chia Hotel Laguna

We've been to the Chia Laguna resort for several years now and always stayed in the 5* Hotel Laguna. This year we opted for the 4* Hotel Baia which is on the same site because we were a larger family party and also wanted to be near the dive centre which is situated in Hotel Baia. The comparisons are very interesting, as both hotels are not cheap. Please note I have not visited the Hotel this year as yet, so my comments are based on previous years experience. The Hotel Baia has beautiful grounds and the rooms are situated up on the hillside above the hotel. This means they are very quiet, have lovely views and it doesn't feel like you are staying in a hotel. Our room is a good size, with a spacious bathroom and a shady balcony with a couple of deck chairs. It is all very picturesque. The downside is that we are up quite a steep hillside, so walking back up to the room could be challenging. There is a minibus service on call so that's good and I'm sure most fit people wouldn't give it a second thought, but it is a consideration. There is a choice of restuarants in the resort (some at extra per head cost) so plenty of choice if you want it. We've been happy with the on site restaurant so far as it's self service and there's plenty of choice so we are happy. We do have a Vegan in the family and nothing is marked up as suitable for Vegans which is a bit of a surprise. Vegetarians yes, but vegans no. That being said, food has not been a problem so far. The Baia restaurant is far more relaxed than the Hotel Laguna which is very formal and has a set menu. While we have enjoyed this in the past, it's actually a relief to have a more relaxed atmosphere. All the staff are very friendly, and nothing has been too much trouble. There are no kettles / tea / coffee making facilities in the rooms at either the Hotel or the Baia. We have always asked for a kettle and got one, but some people might not know that you can ask for this. The swimming pool at the Baia is excellent. A large main pool and a smaller children's one. We were surprised at the depth of the main pool. As an adult, I cannot stand in any part of the pool, so anyone with children would need to consider this in terms of safety. There is a lifeguard always on duty. Having been used to the Hote Laguna pool (very nice too, with graded depth, where I can stand within my depth), actually the Baia is better. The facilities are very clean wherever you go, excellent toilets around the complex. The Dive Centre, which is situated at the Baia is excellent. We chose the hotel for this facility as my husband is a very keen diver. They look after him really well. The hotel beaches are also excellent - lovely sand and clear sea with attendant / towels / etc. The scenery is beautiful and it's a very picturesque setting So, little differences between 4* and 5*. No tissues, slippers or flannels in the room - an odd difference really. The bedroom is slightly smaller, though there's plenty of wardrobe space and also electiric sockets. .There is less service in that housekeeping comes once a day, but one could argue that you don't really need it more than that. One real downside - the Wifi is awful, and I think that's for the site, not hotel specific. So, forget trying to stream anything, listen to a podcast or watch on YouTube. An internet connection to get your email is a bonus. Not acceptable IMHO.

Hotel Baia at Chia Laguna, a great place and a great nature around you

We went with my partner in the second half of September, it was calm and relaxing and the sound of waves right down the hill were immense. We took a suite and it was really spacious, clean and like a small apartment. Beautiful walks downhill to the beach and up again, it's sport and movement. Great to have a coffee machine in the suite, I'm not a big fan of breakfast. The view is amazing and the staff is very kind. For those who do not want to walk there is a van on call. Food is good although as self service, yet it's really great. On top you can chose to go in 3 other different very good restaurants. I would see it more for families, we don't have kids, but from the happy faces I saw around me, kids were happy. A place to go. The lagoon with the flamingos every day is a discovery. There is also a nice market around the corner with very good food and specialties.

    Stay with the flamingos

In general, we had a very good impression of the hotel: great surroundings, wonderful (and not crowded) beach, amazing food. The facilities are really nice, fitting perfectly into the wonderful surroundings. We chose a suite for three so that we can all stay together - the room was sized for two though: it was too small for three, and the extra bed was next to the connecting door and without a lamp. The staff was mostly friendly, but it felt that the level of service and friendliness was a bit dependent on their mood. They all spoke good enough EN though, which I appreciated much. The food was very tasty, prepared with lots of care and thought, and there was a huge variety to choose from, including traditional Sardinian dishes). I would only suggest to open the restaurant earlier in the evening: there were basically crowds around by 7:20, many families with really tired small kids. I would have two suggestions only: install a toilet by/close to the beach and do something about the parking (it is basically a joke).

Really nice hotel at great location, great entertainment for kids

We came with our two 8 year old kids for a week and had a nice two bedroom suite overlooking the sea. It was one of the nicest rooms I ever had (and clearly had its price). The beach is wonderful, the water great, there is a public beach nearby, therefore you can either get snacks for lunch from the hotel or less pricy at two indepent outlets. One great strenght for us was the kids program: they hat 10+ people to entertain the kids, with sports like football (daily for an hour, thanks Paolo), tennis (daily for an hour), beach volley ball, dancing, ... . The kids loved it. Every evening there was a show which the kids also liked a lot (if only they would sell theirs USB with music less agressively). There are multiple options for food. For lunch we prefered the restaurant near the other beach of the resort (Restaurant Le Dune), for dinner we always went to the Buffet Restauran Restaurant Bouganville at 10 min walk from our Hotel. It just had a much bigger choice than the Restaurant La Pergola in our part of the resort and the Risotto by the Milanese Chef was a daily highlight. I do agree with some other reviews however that considering the pricepoint dinner could improve a little bit. The whole resort/setup is very nice, wounderful beaches, nice pools. One thing to note: it is on a hill, so you need to walk a litte bit (there are shutlles however, which should be changed into electric cars). Overall: very relaxing experience, we plan to come again next year.
