Absolutely OutstandingStayed here for 2 nights before lockdown and I would highly recommend it for a couples break. Staff were outstanding, food lovely and our room amazing. We were given an upgrade on arrival that was so appreciated. Cant wait to go back again.

Accommodation not what we booked or paid forOur first night away without our kids in 19 months, we wanted luxury and bellinter house was recommended to us, after checking their website and seeing the accommodation available we set our hearts on the ruins, old world with timber beams and a copper bath available on request. I phoned and spoke to a receptionist to check availability and was told there was one room left in the ruins, we were thrilled, she advised us to book online and even mentioned for us to add a note requesting the copper bath for the night. We booked immediately. Fast forward a week or so and we arrived at bellinter house, we were greeted by Simon who was very friendly, I told her we had booked a room in the ruins and the copper bath and she told us that we had a deluxe room, that the copper bath wasn't available, she brought us away from the main house and buildings down a lane to a completely separate building which housed 2 seperate bedrooms, although the room was pleasant we were gutted to see no wooden beams and asked her about this, she said we had one of the better deluxe rooms in the schoolhouse. We were so disappointed but at this stage we wanted to have some time to rest before dinner. There was a lovely bath so I ran the bath around half way when the hot water ran out, then my partner realised that infact the shower was also cold, little did we know that due to being in a separate building the immersion tank could only supply a limited amount of hot water, we went to contact reception from the hotel phone in the bedroom to discover it dead and not working. We then phoned from our mobiles and were told that everyone must be showering in the hotel at the same time, we still had no hot water the next morning, starved we got ready for dinner, after a mucky walk through an area with only a partial pathway, no lights, we had to use our phone lights to see where we were walking we made it to the restaurant, we had booked a table for 8.45pm and were informed there would be a wait, wait we did, for almost 30 minutes. The food, when it was served I must say was top class, the staff we encountered were friendly. The next morning after cold showers we just wanted breakfast and to go home, walking in daylight we saw that the actual ruins were indeed located attached to the main house and where we had been put was somewhere else completely, I was fuming. We ate a breakfast, again the food was very good and afterwards I went to enquire if where we had stayed was actually in the ruins or not, we were then told it wasn't but the ruins had been over booked due to a wedding! I knew what we got was not what we booked and had paid over 300 for one night for!!! I asked to speak to the manager and we were told to take a seat that Mary would come speak to us. We never met Mary but Derek arrived and spoke to us, I asked him to explain why we had booked one location only to be given another and to our mind less satisfactory room, we told him about the lack of hot water, the promise of the copper bath, the room in the ruins and no working phone in our room, he assured me that the general manager v would contact me, we got to reception to be told our bill was intact 340!!! For one night, dinner and breakfast in a room away from the main thoroughfare and a room we had not booked! I was bitterly disappointed. Having heard nothing I phoned the bellinter and Tuesday after c and was told the GM was on leave but that I would receive a call from her assistant. Sure enough she called me a couple of hours later, she was unapologetic, rude, kept c talking over me, basically accused me of lying as she said their reception staff would never have agreed to my booking a particular room as they weren't allowed to, she offered us a measley 30% off a return visit, as if that would ameliorate her attitude and the mess that was made of our booking. Paying 300 for one night, dinner and breakfast in this day and age should have been top notch, it simply was not, cold showers, a phone that did not work, no windows that we could open, a muck fest badly lit path, the list goes on. I'm disgusted by how bellinter house shafted us off property to a room we didn't book to accommodate a larger wedding group obviously worth more money to them.

Bait and SwitchFalse advertising of the Bed & Breakfast & Dinner package. I have been looking forward to my stay at Bellinter House for years. We recently became engaged and wanted to get out between pandemic lockdowns. We were gravely disappointed by Bellinter House. Perhaps others might learn from our mistake in booking here. The package was affordably priced and the dinner was good so the 1 star is for that alone. As a former oceanfront hotel manager, I am well aware of what a good night stay looks and feels like. Sadly, Bellinter House was not up to snuff. We checked in and were told our room was in the Stables. We thought we had booked for the Manor House. I was shocked that we had to leave the House altogether. A true bait and switch of false advertising! The Stable room was old with mismatched, second hand furnishings with only 3 drawers to place items in. There was a cracked mirror stand in the bathroom and the drawer pulls were missing in the main room. There was nowhere in the room to hang our clothes. We discovered the armoire was outside the room, easily accessible to other "hotel" guests. The ceiling was sloped and being tall, I stood up too quickly and banged my head. A real hazard for tall people! The wooden floor was also sloped and the bed was not as described 'Sleep well (with)Goose Feather Pillows and Soft White Linen". The bed was lumpy and I nearly rolled off the edge due to the slope. The only light in the room came from the 2 skylights. There was one tiny window but it did not open. The entire situation was a fire hazard. We could hear the guests sharing the Stables with us. Talking, sneezing, coughing. The walls were paper thin. And our feet were dirty as the floor was clearly not swept. When we picked up the phone to reach the front desk, we found that the line was dead. We had to put our coats on, to exit the Stables, to return to the manor house. From there we were directed downstairs to dine in the basement. It felt all very Downtown Abbey, upstairs/downstairs. There were people dining upstairs in the well appointed library and sitting room, so we wondered how we ended up in the Stables to sleep and the basement to eat . No where in the package description did it indicate we would be outside Bellinter House or under it. There were 2 stories in the main house and an East and West wing. It seems there were standard and superior rooms, but this was not listed at all in the offer: "escape to a Magnificent 18th century Georgian House" Buyer beware. Breakfast was mediocre. The Irish breakfast was greasy. The omelette was burnt. The dishes were not clean - we changed out our forks twice and the coffee cups were dirty. In ordinary times this would be unacceptable, in a pandemic, simply dangerous. The Spa area was in a metal container, also outside the Manor House. A long walk on a cold day to get in the warm "hot tub" or to use the steam room or sauna. It would have been nice to hear music in the Spa areas. This package was clearly designed for tourists who will likely not return. As Irish citizens, we wasted nearly 300 euros of our hard earned money. We could not be more disappointed.

WeddingI would not ever hesitate in recommending Bellinter House, not only as a wedding venue, but for any occasion. At one of our lowest moments, with a worsening pandemic, level 5 restrictions looming and with two venues having already fallen through, we had just 12 days to go to our wedding. Bellinter House took us on with zero hesitation. The staff at Bellinter House are beyond accommodating, they were our saviours during such an uncertain time. They felt like our own personal support team, always there for us whether it was a panicked email or a manic phone call due to what felt like the never-ending government announcements on tightening restrictions. The staff took incredible care of us, always there to ease our minds, Amanda was a godsend, so sweet and quick responding to all my queries. As with all hospitality, Bellinter House have all health & safety guidelines in place, such as masks, signage and hand sanitizing stations, but we barely noticed these things, once you were inside those big beautiful red doors you didnt feel as though there was a global pandemic raging outside, we felt completely safe and as if we were home. Our day went so smoothly and beautifully, all down to the incredible professionalism and kindness of all the staff. At such an incredible stressful and worrysome time, all the joy had been sucked out of our wedding planning journey. The kindheartedness of the staff kept us hopeful in the week approaching the wedding, and they reignited our excitement by giving us the most beautiful and incredibly joyful day. We did not even have to think for ourselves throughout the day, Tina and Derek were always a step ahead of us, ensuring our guests were happy and could not want for more. The team dressed and laid out our wedding so beautifully that our small number of 25 guests felt like a party of 150. The exterior of bellinter house is absolutely beautiful and with the interior decor being unparalleled in wow factor, the options are endless when it comes to getting your photos. Our photos were really important to us and we were spoiled for choice for backdrops and settings, from the idyllic front staircase to the funky stylish interiors of the drawing room and bedrooms and from the charm of the spiral staircase to the beautifully lit bandstand. Our photos have turned out spectacular. The rooms are absolutely beautiful and cosy and the attention to detail is next level, we will be visiting for many years to come . Denise went above and beyond to accommodate us, she could have turned us away with just 12 days to our wedding and tighter restrictions a strong possibility, but she embraced us wholeheartedly and gave us the most spectacular, beautiful and fun day we could have ever imagined. The kindness of all the staff did not go unnoticed by our guests. Everybody felt so welcomed, safe and appreciative of such gracious service. Many a toast was risen to the staff throughout the day. If you are planning a wedding, a getaway, a lunch or just about anything, put Bellinter House at the top of your list, if not for the breath-taking boutique décor and scenery, or the exceptional food, then to experience the next level hospitality, personalisation and kindness every single member of staff has to offer. You will not regret it!
