    What a dive!

    The Welsh lads below pretty much summed it up, so I won't go in to as much detail (thanks lads). The hotel looks great on arrival but the the interior is shocking. The shower was tiny and mouldy, the shower head was mounted at knee height so we had to get maintenance out to move it! (Who did so within minutes) The shower cubicle is so small if you're not skinny you've got no hope of moving once in. Bed sheets and towels were not changed regularly. No coffee facilities in the room and no way of getting a coffee before breakfast opens (0730) so if you're on an early excursion leaving before breakfast, no coffee for you!! The room itself was smaller than my kitchen, the TV is all in any language but English, this may sound trivial but my Mrs got sun burn so we decided to spend some time out of the sun, thought we'd watch a movie which ended up being on our phones due to 8 channels of gibberish on the TV. This hotel seems to be a favourite for Russian and Polish guests, the staff seem to be fine conversing in these languages but really struggle with English. My mrs lost her hoodie and the lady I was trying to explain it to thought I was talking about a mobile phone!!! Food... As the guys said, how many ways can you destroy a chicken, very monotonous food selection, odd serving times but the burgers from the snack bar and the cakes were tasty. The bitez area is lovely, strongly recommend saying hello to Jimmy at sultan on the water front and seagulls too. The waterfront is an amazing and beautiful area, shame the same can't be said for garden life hotel. Definitely go to bitez, just don't stay here!

    Where to start with this place........ Special mention for Verdat aka Kash, if you had not been at this hotel to help us break the language barrier with the obtuse management we would have checked out and gone elsewhere. You do not even represent the hotel, but you are a credit to them! The catering/bar staff in general were absolutely amazing. Upbeat and positive all day and couldn't do enough to help us, within the ridiculous boundaries the management team had set.....Adil, Halil, Hamman, Ali, Cevtet etc this is no reflection on you! So, why is this place like a pensioners retreat? We were a group of 5 Welsh lads (yes Lisamarie, if you're reading this we're the 'Welsh lads' & you might like our perspective!) - aged 25-39 and went to Bitez because it was recommended by a local in the area who is a friend and business contact. We were there for 7 nights and spent nothing short of 7000 Lira (£700ish) each in the local area. We met several other groups, 2 ladies from London, 2 lads from North Wales, 2 Russian families and 2 Ukrainian ladies - all of whom expressed similar dissatisfaction with the attitude of hotel management and the way in which the hotel is marketed and presented COVID & First arrival - At first glance the hotel appeared to be spotless. The hotel reception is beautiful with flowered gardens and a modern glassed reception. Our cases were disinfected on arrival and our temperatures taken before admittance. You walk through some more overhanging gardens (the smell is beautiful - the gardeners should be proud) into the pool area which is directly outside of the dinging area & bar (the bar isn't a bar, it's a small counter in the restaurant with 1 beer pump). This is where things started to go down hill! Loose tiles all around the pool area which is incredibly dangerous when most people are wearing loose, if any footwear. I would estimate that about 40% of the sun loungers are either damaged or covered in some sort of excrement (likely the scores of wild cats in the area or the birds that inhabit the trees surrounding the pool). On that note, if you're expecting undisturbed sunshine - FORGET IT. The positioning of the trees means that you get maybe 90 mins of constant sunshine between 11am- 3pm, the rest of the time you have to move around the complex chasing the sun. Very poor design. The dining area for all meals is literally surrounding the pool, which means that you get wet from people surrounding the pool (on one occasion some very angry Germans lambasted us for using the pool whilst they were eating within 10m of the pool - how very dare we!). In general just a very, very silly design. The rooms - Simply put, I think preferential treatment is given to non-Brits in room allocation. All 3 of our rooms had some sort of grease/oil on the walls and bed frames with a pathetically thin single sheet acting as a duvet. The walls of our shower room had mould growing on them and on our third day the tap on the sink basin quite literally exploded and flooded the room (the maintenance guy however was brilliant, sorted the problem very quickly and could not apologise enough). We spoke to two other British guests with similar stories and all of our room numbers were < 500 (closest to the pool and dining area) - However we got close with some Ukrainian and Russian guests during our stay and their rooms were scores above the size and cleanliness of our own, these rooms are located closer to the aquapark and are 600>, so would advise requesting a room number of 600+. The food - cold meze salads were absolutely fine, but the hot food is stale chips from the breakfast serving and 14 different ways to undercook or burn chicken. You might get some white, sticky, rice if you're lucky. We expected this due to the scores of other reviews giving us fair warning but you'd think the hotel would make some sort of effort to improve the offering & put some theme nights on!? The one saving grace was the snack bar that operated 11am-3pm and served delicious egg & cheese Pide (basically a Turkish calzone) Drinks - As I said about the bar, it's not a bar - it's a counter in the restaurant with x2 coffee machines, x1 beer pump and then unbranded Gin, Vodka, Raki, or Whiskey (there was a cream liquor on one very special day); As you expect with any all inclusive, the drinks are very heavily watered down and as you might expect with 5 grown men, we drank our fair share. The guys in the bar (Adil especially) had a great laugh with us and we have no complaints about them whatsoever, very accommodating and even brought us our own crates of water so that we did not need to disturb the dining guests Entertainment- I think just about any holiday goer expects music to be played by the pool during the day. Not this place, they seemed to pick and choose when to put the speakers on (2 outdated Soundboks strapped to a tree with bungee cords) and when they did play music it was either Turkish covers of popular 80s songs or classical music...... literally had Brahms playing at peak sun time). We bought our own speakers and proceeded to play our own music throughout the day at a reasonable level at our area of the pool.... more on this later! Evening entertainment? There is none! The 'animation team' is one person that knows how to do the chicken dance in English for children and a bit of Zumba, and then that's it - over with in 40 mins. No entertainment for the adults just the same repetitive classical music Specific Problems - 1) Music/noise in general by the pool - We were told on the 2nd day that we were not allowed to play music by the pool and asked to keep the noise to a minimum as other guests of the hotel had complained. I would understand this if we were being obnoxiously loud and disturbing others enjoyment, but we purposely secluded ourselves from other guests and did not visibly upset, nor were we approached by, any guests requesting we lower the volume/turn the music off. I believe the issue here is that a handful of regular local guests did not like the change in atmosphere, complained directly to reception and thus the hotel tried to accommodate them. We pointed out that we are also paying guests and nowhere in the contact with the hotel nor the poolside rules does it say we cannot play music and enjoy ourselves. The hotel is not advertised as a silent hotel and their were many families with children making equal noise to our party. We were not questioned on playing music again! 2) 'Hands-ON' approach from security - Security/porters like to come and move you on from the pool area come 7pm and remove loungers from underneath you. This is because the pool shuts at 7pm and the poolside doubles as the outdoor seated area for the evening meal. On one particular occasion security seemed to think it would be okay to put hands on one of our party who albeit was drunk, but certainly not disorderly who had refused to move from the outside dining area (we were sat at the tables having a drink playing cards, someone else wanted the table for a plate of food). This resulted in 3 other members of our party surrounding the security as well as 5 of the hotel catering staff, all of whom were trying to reason with the security guard. I subsequently discovered that this had happened on previous occasions with British guests and that management had no record of this. When we asked to formally complain, we were told no. It was only after contacting the night manager Selman did not the complaint get logged. This was not a pleasant experience for us nor the other guests in attendance, some of whom were young children. 3) Cost of transfers/taxis to bars - DO NOT LET THE HOTEL OR ANYONE ASSOCIATED WITH THE HOTEL BOOK YOU A TAXI/TRANSFER. One of the managers/receptionists (they dress the same, so hard to tell the difference at times) offered to book us a transfer to a local bar we wanted to visit. We paid them 700 lira (£70ish). When we got to the end of the night and asked for the bill at the bar we subsequently discovered that we were being billed 700lira for the Taxi. How many times do you think guests have paid the bill without question? We managed to find the person in question and use the local boat tour operator (Verdat aka KASH) to translate for us and get the money back, but I found this to be an absolute breach of trust and a disgusting attempt to line his own pockets. 4) COVID rules - for the first 5 days of our stay the only rule in place was that we had to wear a mask when entering the dining area or going to the bar. There was no sanitising of tables/chairs in between guests, no social distancing and no requirement to wear a mask in reception or any other area of the hotel. It would seem the hotel had a warning during our stay because for the last 2 days there were stricter measures. We had to social distance in dining spaces, which inevitably meant that some diners had to eat inside the restaurant which was incredibly overheated and not air conditioned. Masks were now required everywhere but by the poolside and empty cups & tables and chairs were visibly sanitised frequently. The good points - 1) the local area of Bitez is lovely. The beachfront is stunning and the local bar/restaurant owners are friendly and enticing without being pushy. We spent a lot of time in the New Moon bar operated by Elvis, New Season Restaurant operated by Bilbo and team and the Shamrock bar operated by Fat Tony (he would not tell us his name, but you'll know him when you see him!) . The food in New Season is absolutely stunning, 1000g steak for £25 you cant go wrong!) 2) Kash and his boat Trips Kash is the man that wanders the hotel speaking 5 different languages to all guests offering excursions and boat trips. He is a really good laugh & very knowledgeable of the local area and understands value for money. The boat trips go from Turgutreis which is about 40 mins away by transfer and are well worth the 200 lira (100 if you negotiate properly). 3) Selman the night manager - was lovely with us! A handful of times we came back to the hotel a bit worse for wear and likely were a bit loud - Selman tolerated this with professionalism, escorted us to our rooms and even provided some entertainment along the way (the man can rap!). It really is a shame the other managers and executives for the hotel do not understand or share the same approach to hospitality. All in all, if you're looking for a good looking exterior to a hotel, enjoy monotonous food choices and want to sit in the shade with classical music playing all day then this is the hotel for you. Even then, you're going to have to deal with blunt, borderline rude managers, dirty hotel rooms and constantly have to watch where you walk due to loose tiles and animal excrement. Otherwise stay in the Sunset Otel literally next door, we booked additional rooms there and although they do not have the same facilities they are MUCH more accommodating and hospitable...... they even play music and don't sit their dinner guests right next to the pool! Bitez, we will see you again for sure. GardenLife Hotel, you need to seriously reconsider how you market your hotel and the type of guests you wish to have stay with you and spend money in your local economy if you do not want to have parties of adults coming for a good time. If it was not for Kash, Selman and the locals of Bitez you would have left us grumpy, unclean, hungry and a wholly negative impression of Bitez, Turkey. I hope you use our review to make the changes needed so that other British guests do not suffer the same experiences Fishy, Calum, Chunk, Luke and Dez (the Welsh Lads)

    Great holiday and hotel

    Just back from 2 weeks here and had a great time. The hotel staff were fantastic, we dont normally engage too much with others on hols but it was impossible not to get to know them. In particular Selman, Adil, Halil and Cevtet but every single person went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. "Cash" was around selling tours but not too pushy and we did the boat trip and Hammam and both were good value. Location was ideal, 5 min walk to beach and bars/restaurants and lovely bay. Bunc cafe across road worth a visit, excellent food. Hotel food was good and varied but dont expect English style meals. Plenty options for everyone. Considering all the Covid restrictions they are having to deal with the hotel made our trip an enjoyable one.

    Lovely hotel and grounds. The stag were really great and couldn't fault. We changed room as first was a little noisy and reception very helpful and kind. Second room was perfect.felt safe with new covid rules. Would def return.

    Awful holiday..

    Arrived there had temperature taken .no disinfectant of luggage...filled in few covid forms then got taken to our room #371 which was about the size of a broomcupboard, and smelt like one aswel 2 cockroaches in shower, wasn't fit for a dog to sleep in nevermind a human being. Went to reception to complain about it the receptionist couldn't understand me , even though this hotel is suppose to be English friendly and having got the manager on duty she didn't know what a cockroach was. Were moved to family room 640 that night which was somewhat better..The following morning was told our next room was ready having been taken to it was no better than the 1st one the bed unmade and pillows that were yellow with stains, which the receptionist didn't see an issue with it. We finally got put into 460 on ground floor was OK but still the pits. Balcony door didn't even close properly and smell of all the rooms was a musty smell.Constant issues with the door keys not working.and the food basic chips with everything inc breakfast. Think best thing was the gardens probably would have preferred to sleep in them compared to the rooms. Don't know how this hotel has got 4 stars in TripAdvisor & how it is a 3 star hotel would say 1 at best. 1st time to Turkey i won't be in a rush going back covid or not, Staff not really helpful and lack of English is an understatement. No form of entertainment started removing tables and chairs at 9pm went people left them . If your a family or older generation then this might be OK for you .. But this hotel seems to cater for none english better the Turkish guest were getting table service on the sunloungers. Don't recommend what so ever , Overall was like being in holidays from hell..
