  Great adventure

  We visited Burg Hohenstein during our travel through Saxon Switzerland and our 5 year old was so excited when we told her we would sleep in a real castle! The accommodation was great for hikers, simple but with everything we needed, very clean and stunning views, breakfast continental but plentiful and delicious. Staff was friendly and accommodating, price was great too. We really enjoyed our stay and loved all the features and explored the castle and surrounding area, went on one of the hiking trails starting at the top of the castle right through to The Valley and enjoyed the stunning views and discovered lovely rocks and waterfalls. We all had an amazing time. The Castle is also perfect for bigger children groups and the grounds are perfect for all sorts of activities like table tennis and bonfires etc

  REALLY a castle!

  The accommodations were spare but really clean and just fine. I had a little sitting room with a table and chairs, a large bathroom with a shower stall and a bedroom that was charming with two beds. The price, with breakfast was exceptionally low. There is a stone spiral staircase up to the first and second floors. I stayed on the second and very luckily a young man in our group took my bag up to my room. There are long steep hills from the parking area into the castle itself. The view from my window was lovely. There is no ac but it was cool and pleasant in the mountains. I would definitely recommend it to others who feel they can navigate cobble stone hills.

  Rip off

  Although we took the best and prieciest room the bathroom was more than simple. We spent one night and opted not to take a shower. The receptionist convinced me to book with dinner for only 6 euros per person, so we didnt expect much. But when the waiter charged us 3,40 euros for a glass of water (we didnt even see the bottle where she got it from) and there is no sign or menu that indicates that drinks - even tap water - is being charged - and not lets say something like 0,50 cents, but 3,40! - then this is certainly a rip off! Nature around Hohnstein is beautiful but we certainly had enough. When I informed the receptionist she got quite angry and said that Im the first to complain about that.

  Good, modest

  We were happy with our stay as we did not have high expectations. The location is great, it's an adventure to sleep in a real castle. The wifi is available only in courtyard - it was spotty. Breakfast was good.

  A room in a castle

  I love castles.....so the opportunity to stay in one was always going to be high on my list. The rooms are basic but quite comfortable and we had lovely views over the town. The staff were friendly, the breakfast was good but the evening was only a buffet. The wifi was unreliable but nothing could take away my enthusiasm for a bed in the bowels of the castle. Great views and well located.
