  Good location, Good night's sleep

  We were pleased with the hotel. The room was clean enough, spacious and beds were comfy and located close to the city centre for an easy drive in to do things. Being right next door to an IHOP, you'd think they'd have vouchers to have breakfast there as the one at the hotel left things to be desired. Our electronic key stopped working twice and had to have it rescanned/remade which was annoying but happens. My main issue was that there is no elevator and despite having asked for a ground floor room due to mobility issues, we had to carry our heavy luggage up a big staircase which really hurt.

  Never Again

  So for the past 3 years, while one of my sons has been attending Boston University, my family has stayed at the Charles River Inn for move-in, move-out, family day events, etc. Our thought process has always been it's a place to sleep and shower, is convenient to the BU campus (not walking distance but less than 5 minute drive), offers free parking (a true rarety in Boston where it's typically $30-50 a day to park). As you'll see at the end of this review that all ended about two and a half hours ago. The place is dated and is more of a motel than an inn. Their continental breakfast is plain and simple but it is complimentary. The rooms are certainly nothing to write home about but again, we use it strictly as a place to sleep for a night or two here or there so we don't ask or expect much and it has always been adequate for our needs on these relatively quick jaunts. Today, miraculously, our drive from New Jersey was unimpeded and we made the trip in record time. As such we arrived to check-in @1:30. At the desk they found our reservation, told us check-in time was 3pm but they hsd a room available now for an additional early check-in fee. We explained that we were repeat customers for a few years now which garnered a response that there was nothing that could be done because of "the system" and the login procedures. We left. The issue here was/is not the money. In reality we will now be paying more on our trips. It is the idea that loyal, returni guests could not have a fee waived. I would rather (and fortunately am able to) pay more for a facility that respects that customers have a choice and failing to acknowledge that hurts/costs business. So if your circumstances are such that you simply want/need a cheap (comparatively by Boston standards) place to rest your head, Charles River Inn exists. If you, like us, want a place that actually appreciates your business, you'll pay more but join us at the Inn at St Boltoph or any of the dozens of others hotels, large or small, chain and boutique, within minutes of the BU campus. -Jim T.

  Good budget hotel

  I came into Boston for the first time to move my daughter into her apartment. At the last minute I needed to book a hotel and did not want to spend alot of money or travel far for one night. I found this hotel and booked it based upon the reviews and the low price. I must say the hotel is safe and clean and a bargain for the area. The hotel is a good bargain alternative for someone wanting a clean room at a reasonable price.

  Boston Trip

  The hotel is out dated but clean .They have a good breakfast . Staff is really friendly .. Make sure your driving because the bus schedule here stinks . You can take Uber or a Lyft to where ever you need to go. Our heater actually stopped working , thank goodness it did t get too cold . If you wonder if I would stay here again it would be no..

  be careful

  if you book this hotel through an online website be very careful not to put in the wrong dates for the booking. I recently did that this past Sunday march 8th thinking I was booking for two nights from Friday march 20th through Sunday march 22nd on agoda.com. I realized shortly after booking the wrong date was put in their as the same night was booked as the night I was booking it on. I tried to cancel on the manage my booking page and believed it was canceled until I saw they still charged my card. I called the hotel the next day the girl at the desk said the booking company told them I would still show up by 7pm that evening, I didn't cancel and it was up to that company to refund or not. I emailed the customer service at the company and they basically said it was the hotel's decession and they would not agree to amend it to a free canceled booking. I am not mad or upset and yes I do realize part of the problem was due to my own mistake. but please be careful to realize if you book the wrong date and try and cancel they will take the money regardless.
