    Well placed for overnight stop.

We had to travel from Staffordshire down to Newport with an early arrival time. Normally we would have just left early on the day but what with the rain/flooding and the prospect of snow/ice forecast we decided to travel the evening before and had a night here leaving us a ten minute drive in the morning. As a Wyndham Rewards member I thought the price was very good for what we received. The room was clean and the decor was good and everything worked. The lady who booked us in was really helpful, think her name was Starr, and she certainly was!

Want to lose money? Stay here!

Well here is the quick version of everything that happened, so make sure you AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!!! - Upon check in, they asked for my reg to put in their system. I made it abundantly clear that due to it being a hire car, I needed to be sure that I wouldn't get a charge, as even if they cancelled it after, I'd get a charge. They said they'd make sure it was done - After going upstairs and to the other side of the hotel, I find the key didn't work. I had to go back to reception to have someone unlock my room as the key didn't work. - The room itself was dated and grimy, and the sofa had a hole in the upholstery. But, you know, it had a bed. - The walls were very thin, so there was a lot of noise. - Ads everywhere tell you to sign up for wyndham rewards to get free drinks, late checkout, points, and other benefits, I signed up, was told I'd get the points, got nothing. Especially no free drinks or late checkout - Day of departure, I wanted to buy a food voucher to get 25% off breakfast and check out. I waited 40 minutes at the desk, pressing their press for service button, calling the hotel, no answer. Finally someone shows up, apparently the buzzer doesn't work, and they've left one woman as the only staff member in the hotel, and she's meant to clean rooms whilst manning the desk. - She gives me a food voucher to compensate for the wait. - After clearly specifying that I could not get a pcn, even if they would later cancel it, because of the admin charge I would receive, they still neglected to prevent the pcn. - I have been charged £60, which the hotel are refusing to refund even though it is legally their responsibility. I have emailed back to give them another chance to do the right thing and refund the charge that has been caused by their negligence, but have not had a response. If they refuse to do the right thing and refund the charge, I will have to take it further. Hopefully this won't need to be the case Make sure you avoid this place wherever possible!

    Convenient, but shabby

One would have hoped that the standards set by Premier Inn would mean that the other budget chains would raise their game. Alas, not in this case. Situated in a service area on the M4, convenience is probably it's main selling point. The whole place needs refurbishment. Our room was tatty, the beds uncomfortable, the bath very small, the hot tap stuck, etc. etc. Looking at the rest of the place I have no reason to suspect other rooms were any better. Staff were friendly enough though.

Days Inn at Magor, December 2020

Clean, warm, good value for money and a good place to break my journey. Staff very welcoming . Couldn't check in until 3pm because of Covid, understand why. Once in very welcoming, clean and warm. Would stay there again.

Good stay/ short walk into town if your determined

I've never stayed in a Days Inn and my first experience in Magor was pretty good. For £50 odd quid and located as standard in a serivce station; the rooms were ok and represented decent value. Location wise there is also the option to walk into town which is only reccommended for the brave and foolhardy but if you fall into either of the latter categories; then get yourself down to the Wheatsheaf. Staff were very friendly and location wise you're straight back onto the road in the morning.
