  Spacious rooms, well equipped but not prepared to deal with tourism.

  This is not a hotel. There is no reception and getting the key to enter the building is a very hard work. English, Spanish or French are not spoken. Our rooms were not cleaned during our stay. Communication is difficult and the only person (when is available) is rude. Payment is also a nightmare. Credit cards are not accepted, and we advise to pay the exact amount as change is dishonestly not given. After payment, you have to sign a document in German which I never knew what it was. Shame... Very nice location (if you get the river view room), spacious rooms, well equipped but not prepared to deal with tourism.

  What a view

  Imagine a nice peaceful valley with a river in it and lets call that river the Elbe. If that image was nice, you most certainly have to check out the valley of the Saksische Schweiz (Switzerland of Saksony). There are places like Koningsberg, Rathen, Wehlen, but reserve far up ahead since Die Belegung (room availability) is not high when you want to book something last minute. So of course I was having no luck finding a room and decided to look a little more upriver towards Dresden and there I found near Pirna, the Elbresidenz Birkwitz. A wonderful apartment awaited me, which was not very childfriendly because of the nice details. Our 1- year old son, celebrated our arrival by molesting a large dressing screen in the room, but for the rest had plenty of space to play. The service of the receptionist was friendly and the room was very clean (like everywhere in Germany). The apartment was complete and the view was just phenomenal. Good beds and breakfast can be ordered up ahead against a small surcharge. For a romantic getaway you will find an ocean of space and a romantic little nest watching out over a great valley. For a 1 year old there is just too much to break and therefore less suitable. Nevertheless a 4 star rating is fair enough, considering the remote location of Birkwitz (and it not really being part of Saksische Schweiz). But dont be discouraged it is definitely worth your 120 euro to try the suite at the Elbresidenz.
