    The best hotel in the area

    We stay in Windschar every winter for 13 years already. Our feeling of the hotel - it's home-like, nice and comfortable, with professional and friendly staff, with all necessary big and small required services in hands. Just add one of the best restaurants in South Tirol, the swimming pool and saunas, the training room, the kid's ground, the spacious and comfortable lobby, many historic and interesting places around, Bruneck is just in 5 km, Kronplatz and Anterselva are in close proximity - this is just a part of what Windschar provides for its guests. After visiting many hotels around the world, I'd like to mark real cleanness of the public areas and the rooms. They're may be not so modern and high-tech, but really clean and smell nice. And this, by the way, just add them a peculiar feeling of an old home-like place in the small village high in the Alps.

    Bad and expensive surprise

    Pictures looks much nicer than reality. Pool is not that big and nice. Spa is also much smaller and always crowded with unrespectful people. Main surprise was the tiny room with very old and dirty bathroom, really not at the level, especially not for the high price you pay. We booked breakfast only and first evening we arrived a bit late choosing to stay at the hotel for dinner... such a bad choice! No possibility to go "a la carte" and you are forced into the standard dinner with 5 courses and high price to pay... we refused 3 of 5 courses but price was the same and 32 euro per person while in the website is written 23... food was also not at the level. Interesting the entertainment offered (aperitivo at the pool & similar) but still the price you pay is way too much for what you get. Also they have private parking but is not offered and you end up on parking on the road in front of the hotel, with all the risks for your car. Staff at the reception not so prepared and kind. Spa massages and treatments are also a bit too expensive.

    Excellent Hotel

    On arrival our booking was upgraded to a large and luxurious suite. Amazing food: we stayed two nights half board and loved the choice and variety at breakfast and dinner. All the staff were friendly and helpful even though we speak very little German (or Italian). We would love to go back.

    A bad start with a happy ending.

    After a long and friendly conversation with the owner, he promised that the issues below were going to be addressed. Therefore, I decided to replace my previous 1 star review with a 4 stars one, as mistakes may happen. The important thing is to recognise them and amend. Nonetheless, I keep part of my previous review below for future clients to see if the hotel is delivering on what has been promised. Of course, if the following issues are addressed, the hotel deserves the reputation that appears to have with other clients, more fortunate than us this time. Taking these issues aside, the hotel does deserve another chance. - Nice facilities but the service is not up to the standards and be careful not being tricked to book a room in a dependance of the hotel, which means 100 meters away, no direct access to main building, SPA etc, through private road, but only through the main public road with cars driving and no public lighting at night. This information must be available before confirming the booking. If not, please phone them to confirm. Staff didnt even offer to help us to carry our luggages when we arrived with 2y old daughter and a 4 months pregnant wife. The lady, who broke the news about the location of our room, disappeared right after leaving us at the front door of the hotel looking for this building 3-4 buildings further. Had to walk all the stuff all the way on our own, while looking for it Moreover, they informed us that there was no possibility for us to get a refund for one of the four rooms, as my cousin got sick the night before and his fiancé decided to stay at home with him. Of course, we just asked if it was possible not to pay or pay just the first night for that room, but we accepted their decision without saying anything as we knew that the booking rules didnt allow that. The rules were on their side and they decided to apply them in full. Still, no issue, even though it happened to us in the past that other hotels of similar standing were kind enough to show a bit more flexibility (especially when you are still taking other 6 guests to the hotel). No bottled water in the room, despite a minibar was mentioned in the room description. No electric water boiler in all of the hotel. Staff forcing itself to be kind and often not willing to help to solve a problem (like warming up your daughters milk with a microwave) until you shout at them. We also booked a walk with snowshoes, as in their program, then they informed us 5 minutes before going that it was going to be a simple walk. Soap in one of the rooms wasnt refilled and they forgot to put slippers for the SPA too (when asked at the SPA, they replied to ask at the reception, so we simply gave up).

    Ski holiday

    We have just had the best fish buffet ever. Sadly this only happens once year for Ash Wednesday. The chefs must have been very busy. We would highly recommend. Thank you. The food generally is of the highest standard.
