  Comfortable room - bizarre shower stall notwithstanding

  I was here for 4 nights. The room was large and well furnished. Bed was comfortable enough albeit slightly harder than I like. The shower stall is a circular glass tube visible from the room so I was glad I was solo. The hot water took a while to kick in but then the shower was fine. WiFi worked fine. I had the breakfast in the western restaurant and it was okay only. Bacon and eggs were lukewarm from the bain maries but coffee was good (from a machine). Pastries were okay. For $64 a night this was pretty good value. I didn't have time to try the pool or the gym. I'd stay here again, no qualms.

  Don't go here

  This hotel is all show and no substance.big shiny lobby but all The rooms stink of cigarette smoke and are cleaned very superficially. The bathrooms get a casual wipe. I know because I watched the room maid. The aircon systems appear to have never been cleaned in my 8 year knowledge, and the hotel has no natural ventilation. Corridors and rooms are unhealthily musty and unpleasant smelling. The western food is somewhere between dire and disgusting. A steak ordered as "medium" took 40 minutes to arrive in the so called "Western "Restaurant and had an ice cold center. A burger contains an ½ oz piece of steak beaten to be flat and wide. The food serving area is filthy. The kitchens would be shut by a half blind health inspector and the cooks have dirty fingernails and are generally gungy and rather manky looking. It takes patience and a great deal of time to get a spoon - the Chinese guests steal them apparently, so there are only a few spoons, hidden away! - the plates are old and chipped, tomato sauce in a crusted and dirty bottle, and the worst coffee ever tasted anywhere. Hardly anyone speaks even basic English making room service almost impossible. When food does arrive it is inevitably cold and greasy. A G&T in the bar takes 10 minutes to make AFTER you have managed to convey to the grubby boy of a barman what it it, by going and getting a bottle from a locked alcohol cabinet. During my last stay which finished yesterday I was the only Customer that I saw in the bar - over a 7 day period. The bar is a very bad joke. It used to have a very bad band, who have moved on leaving one in a black and somber room with a barkeeper squeezing his spots and handling the peanuts. Most of the hotels income used to be generated by the KTV / brothel attached to and owned by the hotel. Thanks to Government and local police crackdowns, the KTV appears to be operating without any girls so the hotels income is down severely. It shows in so many ways. There are many "managers" equipped with walkie talkies, but none seem to have any real power. Power rests with the senior management and General Manager. Junior managers report that the GM doesn't care about anything about income. The room rates are expensive for China but there are other hotels around that offer a lot more for the similar cost. Most of the male staff are keen to pimp prostitutes but their keenness ends there. My advice, having stayed here in 7-10 day visits, 40 or more times over the last 8 years is don't go here.

  Private dining rooms

  I had lunch here and there was a wide selection of Chinese dishes. There are many private dining rooms so it is a good place to have a business meeting. We were with local businessmen so I'm not sure how westerner friendly it is.

  Best hotel in Dalingshan!

  This is very good value for the money! The rooms are very spacious and overall the cleaning level is OK. It is located very nicely in the centre of Dalinshan with a lot of restaurants around. The staff is also very friendly.

  Don't stay here

  Hotel looks great from the outside, and even the lobby is impressive. But beginning with a slow and complicated check in, things go downhill fast. At least half the lights in the hallway are off, and there is a musty smell. My nonsmoking room smelled of smoke and carpet was so dirty and stained I didn't dare take off my socks. Stayed one night and couldn't get out fast enough. It's a huge hotel but saw very few people, so it seems others feel the same. Owners and management need to make big changes.
