    Best place in Java!

We have just stated here for 4 nights and loved it! The hotel and the staff are lovely! The rooms are really comfortable, clean and very spacious. The hotel as a whole is also very well looked after. The pool area is also great with 2 sun beds and a good size pool (I think it would be good to have some more beds though as sometime they were occupied). The hotel is also located off the main road so it was quiet and peaceful at all times. The best thing about this place was the staff! They were always so friendly and willing to go out of there way to help especially the lady at reception who spoke amazing English (sorry- forgot your name!). She left the hotel with us on two occasions to help us book train tickets and replace a broken phone charger. Also helped us get cash when our card was declining at the ATM. She was so helpful!! The breakfast is included and is also amazing... Fresh fruit, pancakes, omelettes, juice, tea/coffee all part of the deal!

The owner is an extremely lucky one cause he can counts on Bella which one is the perfect all around supervisor! In fact shes even more than that, shes the soul of the house! Yes, I do recommend this place to the travelers who will visit Yogya ! Paulo

Don't judge a book by its cover

Honestly on arrival the sight that greeted us, a small office on the left with a few motorbikes parked on the right I was wondering whether I made the right choice. Then Bella came and greet us and did the check in. She was all smiles which radiates all over her face and you can' t helped but liked her immediately. She led us into the interior and what a difference it is like unveiling a treasure chest. There is a fish pond in the center with lush greenery surrounding it and on the left is the breakfast area. I noticed there are no fans but the place is cool. Further at the back there is a small swimming pool and some rooms. We had a room upstairs eg adults. The bedroom is very spacious with a balcony overlooking the fish pond. The only improvement I would suggest is putting a face mirror and shower curtain in the bathroom cum toilet. Location is to me perfect away from the traffic and travelling anywhere is so cheap if you use Go Jek (Grab). Bella tells me that Griya means 'home' and this place is truly befitting its name. So thanks again Bella for being such a wonderful hostess.

    Great homestay with awesome service

Really great homestay, more like a hotel. We (3 person) stayed for 4 nights in a double room plus one extra matress. The bed and extra matress were really comfortable. Everything was clean and nice. The best thing about this homestay is the lovely person (Bella) from the reception. She helped us to find the best trip, driver and so on. I would love to be back soon!

True to its name, Griya Yunika is like a home where kindness and generosity dwells

We arranged for the airport transfer service of Griya Yunika. From the airport, we made a stop at a money changer, Mulia, the most reputable based on my limited research, before heading to the hotel. I had asked Bella if this was possible, a request which she graciously granted like it was nothing. [background: I had never made such a request in our previous travels since I always brought the local currency from home. The IDR however was a different story; it was not available anywhere, so we brought USD.] Our room wasn't available when we arrived, as expected since it was only around 8am. However, the scene that greeted us at the ground floor was unexpected. It was gloomy; a mess. Even the Christmas tree with the Christmas lights on looked lonely in one corner. The pond did not help. The pool outside the hallways end appeared murky and the area far from relaxing with a few guests early morning goings-on about. And then there was breakfast, rather the lack of it, to help divert our minds, never mind fill our hunger. Such was our relief then when the driver reappeared offering to take us somewhere we can have breakfast. He drove us to the restaurant but not before another staff member helped us launch the Gojek app on our mobile phone to facilitate our transportation. The restaurant turned out to be a quaint small place, which the driver shared was a hit with tourists. True enough, the food was filling, healthy and delicious and the service warm. Tummies full, hearts happy and faith renewed that this trip would be as memorable as past ones despite the scene earlier, we headed back to the hotel on our own, as the driver had to leave earlier for official duties. At this point, we felt that he more than made up for the absence of breakfast at the property in taking and accompanying us to the restaurant. On hindsight, perhaps it was also to take us away for a while to give way to what we witnessed next. Back at the hotel, the scene had transformed completely, to our pleasant surprise. We were led to the 2nd floor where another reception area featured an open shelf with a small selection of interesting books, obviously meant for guests enjoyment. The entire floor, the whole property in fact, was beautifully furnished Indonesian style. Our room, which smelled nice and looked spotless, was no exception. It offered more than enough for a family of four - a king bed, an extra queen on the floor, 5-star-hotel-quality bedding, balcony/window overlooking lush greenery, separate toilet and bath complete with necessities and the usual warm/cold shower, personal ref., cable TV, aircon, complimentary bottled water. Like it was nothing, again, we were ushered to our room 4 hours before standard check-in time. It was becoming obvious generosity was an ordinary fare in this property. Though only Bella and one other seemed conversant in English, there was a universal language in the property - kindness. They took care of us like their own despite the language barrier. The afternoon we arrived, we found ourselves "stranded" in Malioboro St. For some reason, we were having trouble with Gojek, there were no cabs to be hailed, and hardly anyone spoke or understood English. We were at a loss how wed go back to the hotel, certainly not on foot with a child and heavy stuff. Desperate, I sent Bella a private message on Messenger as well as an e-mail, hoping she would read them immediately. We lost connection after that and only back at the hotel (after almost an hour waiting for a cab) did I realize from her replies that she sent a cab for us, which naturally didn't find us. Then there was the Gojek food delivery, with which we certainly had a lot of fun, thanks for their help in acquainting us with the app. Again, this wasnt that easy given the language difficulty. The app offered extra convenience for a minimal delivery charge. One night, they even paid for the balance when the delivery charge went higher than what was charged on booking. I expected to see it on our bill, regardless that it was minimal, but it was again charged to the propertys generosity. Buffet breakfast was Indonesian fare but the night before, we were asked if we preferred western and got to choose from a menu what we liked served in the morning. Western was served plated, but you could request further helpings if you want. Just like that, our Yogyakarta trip is now a memory. With time, the memory of what was good and beautiful becomes clearer and whatever may have been less than happy becomes more distant. Griya Yunika is part of what was good and beautiful and as such, the memory of our short stay there has become even more clearly etched by now.
