A SPECIAL HOTEL FOR OPERA LOVERS

We noticed from day one that all the guests in the hotel came for the Wagner Opera Festival. The hotel is providing free transportation from the hotel to the opera house and a return transportation from the opera house at a cost of 4 Euros per person. The hotel is also providing refreshments before going to the opera, and you can book a table at the restaurant to have a meal on your return. The restaurant is open till late (I believe till 1.00 am) when an opera performance takes place. A very nice, reach breakfast is served until 1.00 pm and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a corner in the Reception area, where you can watch records of previous operas. Bayreuth is a beautiful town. Don't forget to visit Richard Wagner's house, and one road up, Franz Liszt's house, also during Wagner Festival a lot of musical events take place, such as recitals at Steingraeber und Sohne Piano Factory, organ recitals etc.

All the basics and very accessible

This hotel is about 20 yards from the Hauptbahnhof, step free so you can easily wheel your luggage there. I didn't hear any train noise however, they use those blinds that go up and down as well as the double glazing. There are steps into the hotel with it being an old building but the friendly staff are on hand to help you up with your luggage. I had a double room, it was huge. Lights and power sockets everywhere and excellent wifi. Maybe the decor was a bit outdated but it was very well maintained. Large bathroom with walk in shower and good ventilation and well-lit. Plenty of wardrobe space. Minibar with space for your own stuff, but sadly no kettle. I didn't ask for one though. If you are there for the Festival, there is the shuttle that leaves an hour before performance-time, one-way only. Never mind because I think this hotel is the closest large one to the Festspielhaus anyway. I walked back (as do most people it seems) in about 15 mins at a slowish pace. If you were going further on to the Goldener Anker for example, it would be another 10 mins. They serve a later supper for after the show. I had a very comfortable night's sleep and was one of the last for breakfast. No waiting for a table and lovely unhurried service from the staff. Good selection available. Reception staff very professional and spoke German very clearly so that even I could understand. Checkout time is 1100, check in is from 2pm. There is a little garden area in a courtyard, There is a cycle machine, sauna and some very light weights, nothing with which to exert oneself. Although I would not call this a "luxurious" hotel, it is not basic and is in very good condition, staff are friendly and it is an excellent location. Next time I am here I will certainly stay

    Confusing decor

Having lived in Bayreuth for a few years before, I was after a central hotel to catch up with friends and visit the christmas market. This hotel ticked all these boxes. It had convenient parking for the rental car right on check in and you can walk to all the important places in town. The room was a good size, but was a bit dated in design. This is probably true for the whole hotel, which seems to have been decorated over many different decades. The lift is slower than the stairs and there are random decor features across the hallways. Breakfast was a decent selection. There are definitely nicer hotels in Bayreuth, but this one has nothing wrong with it either.

Ideally placed for the Festspielhaus and railway station.

I had a frustrating train journey from London to Bayreuth when I joined two other friends for the 2018 Bayreuth Festival, so on arriving past 11pm, irritated and hungry, it was a relief to find that the hotel was barely half a minute away. Reception service was efficient and courteous, and the room was competently presented, but perhaps I was expecting a little more luxury for the price that had been paid. The lack of air-conditioning in the exceptional heat-wave was felt, but at least a desk fan had been provided in the room. Because of the heat, it was necessary to open the windows for ventilation, but with the room being at the front of the hotel, we were subjected on the first night to noise from alcohol-fuelled Saturday revellers, and loud delivery and cleaning vehicles made their presence felt at 5am on each of the four nights. Breakfast was very good, and the service was exceptionally efficient and professional. For those attending operas at the Festspielhaus, a coach is available for a charge (this was a necessity with afternoon temperatures in excess of 30 degrees) and a complimentary drink in the lobby before departure. Overall, the stay here was enjoyable, but I sensed that Festival prices meant that I was paying over the odds for accommodation of this type.
