  Big disappointment: Not worth 2 stars

  Castel Rundegg building needs urgent renovation. The equipment is old and poorly maintained. In my room where I spent 7 days: the bed was of bad quality with a big amount of dust under it, the light of the entrance was out of order, the safe as well, the plugs are historic too (none to plug a computer). There is a heavy traffic in front of the hotel (road leading to Merano 2000). But the worst is the food from just OK to horrible. You need a strong stomach. You don't get for your money. I asked a discount and was almost insulted by the receptionist, a very unpleasant person.

  Charming

  We had just one night at this hotel but I could have stayed longer. Its well located and a gem. Staff was really friendly the rooms interesting to say the list, with a lot of history. We decided to have dinner at the hotel and it was the best option as the food (and the wine!) were amazing.

  Lovely stay

  Weve been visiting Merano ( charming place) for many years for our stay this time we chose Castel Rundegg ,though we are still enjoying our days at the Castle we felt impelled to write our impressions from our first week. The Castle is full of charm and character, beautifully furnished with vintage and antique, museum quality paintings adorn its walls and guest rooms. The location could not be better a few short minutes walk to the center. Our room is very spacious, all the toiletries are French made . The staff could not be more friendly and attentive, my wife which has disabilities and food restrictions we feel that thiss being taken care of with great attention by all. As we are staying on a half board basis we are enjoying dinners at the hotel every night in a most lovely setting, a dining room with vaulted ceilings that transports you back into a far away past. The dinner consists of a five course, plus a salad bar, with a menu that changes every day. Wine list is extensive with some excellent local wines.This property also houses a wonderful spa which is beautifully designed cozy and intimate, with a large indoor pool and fitness room There are sauna rooms too, wet and dry . Must mention also their massage treatments to which we both enjoyed . The Castel is enclaved on its own lush, park like, gardens with many sitting areas to relax or take the sun on a lounge chair. Castle Rundegg will delight you.

  Excellent place for cyclists

  Our cycling company (44|5 Cycling Tours) used Castel Rundegg for one night last week on the transfer day between the Dolomites and the Italian Alps. David and his staff had a few hiccups to deal with and they found solutions for all of them, all with a smile! The rooms are spacious and clean and the grounds are lovely. Finally, our dinner was one of the best we had in our week in Italy.

  A most lovely place in the world!

  For me Rundegg is a signature of Meran. The place where elegance, hospitality, quality and charm are joined in synergy. A building full of history, a welcoming respectful stuff who warmly takes care of you, fine food, a beautiful garden..And all this in the nearest proximity of everything Meran has to offer, you literally have the town on the palm of your hand. This place has been my love for 15 years, a place to hide away from hustle and noise of the world, a place to be pampered and rejuvenated.Many thanks to everyone who makes Rundegg one of a kind!
