Unremarkable, rather gloomy.Poor Villach, damaged by earthquake, mountain, plague, fire and war, tries hard to emphasise its' history but is now a largely unremarkable town as is this hotel. There is no entrance to it from the street that it overlooks as the hotel entrance is on the side and the parking, which is free, is at the back. There is a flight of steps up to reception, which is in one corner of a large rather gloomy room, and a further curved staircase up to the rooms; no lift. Our room was of average size with low beds, an en-suite and overlooked the parking area, other businesses and trees. It also overlooked the hotel's terrace bar which was noisy until midnight and nearby building work started at 7am. The room contained a large floor fan, (no air-con), desk, wardrobe, safe, fridge, and water. There were curtains and blinds at the windows but no tea/coffee facilities or a long mirror. The en-suite contained a shower cubicle, wall-mounted hair-dryer, liquid soap and towels which had seen better days. Breakfast was taken in a pleasant room overlooking the street and consisted of the usual array of continental foodstuffs and a variety of teas. There is a restaurant below but it has no connection with the hotel, apart from sharing the same verdict: unremarkable. We paid E111 inclusive of breakfast, parking and taxes.

Quaint Hotel with Small, Stuffy RoomThe hotel was clean and the staff was friendly enough. It's located close to the town center. Our room (#33) was right over the bar, so we couldn't open our windows without getting smoke in our room. It was quite stuffy as there was no AC. The bathroom was clean and functional. Wifi was available, but didn't reach the room. Breakfast was typical European style.

Great and friendly service, close to city center and good valueI've been here many times for business and also this time in private. Great service any issues were immediately taken care about. Staff is super friendly and rooms are good maintained and newly setup. Even the standard rooms are small, but provide all u need. Free wifi, small quite fridge, comfy bed ... Just the train station about 200m away is a bit disturbing but u will get over it. They will also have soon a elevator, which is urgently needed... Parking is free and a great Austrian standard restaurant below the hotel. Enjoy your stay!

A good stayThe hotel staff were very helpful. The room was basic and had no aircon which was needed in the heat and there was so fridge either and the sheets were not very nice otherwise the room did the job. Its about a 15min walk from the train and about 5min walk from the old town

Good locationI stayed here after hosteling with a mate for 2 weeks, so it may have seemed more salubrious than it was. In any case, I'm not a fussy traveler. Everything was more than adequate. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, especially on arrival. I don't speak German, but their English was first rate. I misread the town map when I booked the room from Slovenia (there are TWO train stations) and so was advised to take a bus from the station to the hotel. This was actually unnecessary, although I had a nice chat with the bus driver on the way. As he said, finding the hotel is a little tricky first time around. Even knowing the correct address you still need to hunt a little for the main entrance which is down a little alley off the main street that is the postal address. Reception is up a steep set of steps which for me was the last hurdle after a complicated trip. After that, all was fine. Check-in was smooth and I got valuable tips on getting around the Old City, which is right to hand. I also asked about getting hot water in the morning because I drink yerba mate (look it up), and the desk clerk said he would message the morning breakfast manager so that he would have some heated and ready by 5:30 (which is when I usually wake). The room was quiet and well maintained. When I left the next day it was an easy walk with my luggage to the station.
