  Simple and convenient

  A small town with not that many hotel choices, so we just picked one which was close to everything. Basic Japanese hotel which is clean, with small rooms and bathrooms. Don't expect anything fancy. Breakfast was included in the deal - not exciting yet not disappointing. The free public bath is clean and refreshing. Just enough parking space for all the hotel guests that night. Extra cost of JPY500-600 per car. One great thing about this hotel is that it is 2 mins walk from Obihiro JR Station + 2 mins walk from the famous pork chop rice restaurant.

  Route Inn high standards

  A short walk from the railway station, the staff speak English and are welcoming. The website says no tattoos in the public bath and when presented with the bath key I showed mine and it was taken back straight away, but those are the rules so you abide by them. Round the back is a multi screen cinema and games centre and a short walk away are all the restaurants you would want to visit. The station has shopping and tourist information available, there's not a great deal to do here but see northern Japan as it really is.

  an unassuming hotel with wonderful features

  It should be note that the Route Inn brand is equivalent to Motel 8 or the Red Roof Inn in the US, but this hotel offers so much more! The location couldn't be better, as it is only steps away from the JR Obihiro Station, and there are literally hundreds of restaurants and bars within a few blocks of the hotel. The receptionists at the hotel were all super friendly and courteous. The entire establishment is sparkling clean and updated, although the bldg is apparently over 20 years old. The best feature is probably the Onsen Spa, which is open long hours. The breakfast was wonderful, as well, although the buffet items were pretty basic--with a mix of Japanese and Western items. They had three kinds of breads available, and they were all EXCELLENT. Although I tend to prefer to have Japanese breakfast while in Japan, I just had to have these breads because they were so good. Overall, given the price range, this hotel far, FAR exceeded my expectations. I will definitely stay again.

  No frills basic rooms for those who spend minimum time in hotels

  A no-frills basic hotel that is for those who are zipping around the very very quiet fishing town of tomakomai. The room is quite a tight squeeze with barely much space to move around easily. After much placements, the best place is by the window. The bed is decent but may be too small for couples who are sharing a double bed. Those who are tall, be careful of hitting you head onto the celling of the bathroom when standing in the small bathtub. There is also a small onsen on level 1 that opens till midnight, good for a soak, but be mindful, the onsen can be quite a squeeze. Only 5 to 6 people can be in there at one time. The hotel location is good, which is right next to the JR train station. Despite being in the main town centre, the vicinity is still oddly quiet.
