  The difference between old and new

  As a volunteer group, twelve of us booked this hotel on line from the U.S. We arrived the hotel thought the lobby looked pretty nice and clean. We were told our rooms were in the back building after we checked in. We dragged our luggages ( with no help), only to find our rooms were in a very old building of the back alley. The bed mattress was old and the room was smelly and small, worse than any of the motels I'd ever stayed in the U.S. We found small black bugs in the room and on the old carpet. We were afraid to unpack our suitcases. There was a sticky desk top in one room, and a broken non functional faucet in another bathroom. We had to pay more money to upgrade to the front building guest rooms. They claim "only remodeled the front building". It was the worst place through our Taiwan trip.

  Passable - There are better alternatives in the area

  I've stayed here on two occasions - have since found there are much better alternatives in the area. This is an average hotel at best, and that's saying something as I stayed both times in the front section of the hotel which was supposed to have been renovated. Don't want to know what the back of the hotel looks like. I mean it wasn't inherently bad - average cleanliness, average room with A/c that didn't work, average sleep in an average bed, average breakfast, average wifi coverage. English was all but non-existant so help in that area was very trying. On the plus side convenience store nearby and the most famous night market in Taichung - Feng Chia Night Market is in walking distance. It's quite a size with many alternatives regarding Taiwanese food and the shopping is cheaper than Taipei. Would I stay here again - Not if I could help it...

  Acceptable

  Couldn't book Dion Hotel so my guest chose the one next door. Definitely not the same quality, but a substantially lower price. I was expecting more so first night was sort of a shock. Arriving to my floor the smell of cigarette smoke was rather strong. My room didn't smell as much but still was noticeable. It's clean, new, but cheap floors, bathtub, etc. it is a 3 star hotel so can't really complain. Breakfast included but you have to leave the hotel building and walk around the corner to get to the dining room. Terrible coffee. No western style breakfast. Fortunately the Dion Coffee shop is just across the street and had some nice cappuccino there. Staff is not fully bilingual so had trouble communicating special needs. Still, when I had the chance to pay 70% more to change to Dion hotel, I decided to stay. Bed was comfortable and clean and had good pillows. Location is wonderful. All in all, not a bad choice.
