Exquisite evening! We have been spoiled from the begining to the end in the gastronomic restaurant inside the hotel !!! I really loved everything! I strongly recommend it! The equilibrated tastes will charme your palace and you always wish to taste the next surprise! Excellent wines to accommodate all this wonderful plates also! I have to say ty to Chef Johann Lafer for his kindness and I absolutely loved his beautiful personality in welcoming us to his Atelier! We'll come back very soon ! :)

Rhine Wine and Dine At Johann Lafer's Stromburg CastleIf great food and wine set in a romantic castle is your thing, Johann Lafer's Stromburg will certainly fit the bill. Nestled on a hill overlooking the medieval town of Stromberg it is the perfect place to savour the stunning beauty of the landscape of the Rhineland and Nahe Valley famed for its wine. But the icing on the cake is Stromburg itself where the Michelin-starred chef Johann Lafer who is renowned for his cookery programmes on television in Germany is the king of the castle and the kitchen. We had a ten-course taster menu on the second night and a five-course taster menu on the last night at his famous fine dining restaurant Le Val d'Or and every delicate dish was presented with style and sophistication like art on a plate. The taste of each dish was exquisite and the dessert was sweet sensation. We also dined at its less formal restaurant Bistro d'Or which served more traditional cuisine and the veal schnitzel served with white asparagus and buttery potatoes were to die for! Our room is comfortable, clean and cosy with great amenities although the pillow was a bit too soft for my liking which was promptly rectified with a firm pillow when I requested for one. The service was impeccable and efficient in very department from the check-in desk to the restaurants and the drivers, always polite, friendly and sincere. Johann and Silvia Lafer were the perfect hosts always making sure their guests were happy and well looked after ! And dogs are welcome to stay in the rooms with their owners. And that to me is the best kind of hotel where our four-legged friends can enjoy a holiday with their owners like families. Three woofs for the Stromburg which is a member of the prestigious Relais and Chateaux Association.

Schlossgut DielWe were welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine with local cassis liquor and a stunning welcome dish of asparagus with a sorbet infused with Yuzu. Outstanding breakfast as one expects in such a property which is part of Relais & Chateaux. The rooms are named after famous chefs. I stayed in Roux of La Gavroche fame. Dinner somewhat of a disappointment Superb setting, friendly attentive staff with a personal touch.

Great food, rooms not great thoughIf you travel as a foodie then this hotel rates 5 stars hands down. The gourmet restaurant is wonderful and the menu is fantastic . Special thank you to Claudio the sommelier who was very helpful and friendly. All the staff are excellent to be clear but the setting of the hotel is lacking somehow. There are no views and the rooms we were allocated were minute. We travelled with our two children but were given two rooms which weren't interconnecting (Gruber and Duch). If the rooms were at least larger it would have sufficed but the one room was very small. There was a wedding going on and the guests took over the hotel and I think in retrospect we wouldn't have gone having known this. However I must say again the service and food were amazing 5 * no questions. Overall we preferred our stay in Burgschwarstein more given nicer property with views over the vineyard and lovely rooms which were interconnecting

Great experienceWe were there in August, greeted with a glass of Champagne. The rooms are beautifully renovated, I absolute love the new style. We had a very amazing lunch in the garden, just as the weather cleared and the sun came out. Could have not been better! Johann and Silvia Lafer are incredible hosts.
