No beach, no villa, no joy.

Staff doesnt speak english at all. Only the rude manager who was not even there. Rooms looked nice at first glance but were filthy and infested with ants. Very bad location. Breakfast was a joke. The only good thing was that we only spent one night. I feel fooled and hope the place burns to the ground. Seriously, stay away!

    a gem poorly managed

So many things wrong with this place I don't know where to start. How about the name, Joy Beach? There is no beach nearby. You walk to the end of the street, jump a ditch, make your way through a parking lot to find yourself at a locals beach that was beyond filthy. With a name like Joy Beach Villa not Villas, you assume when booking that you have the place to yourself. You do not. This becomes quite awkward if you're not the social type. Here's the layout. There are two rooms at the back of the property, one with two bed, one with a queen. Each has its own bathroom. However, they share a vaulted roof and the walls are 8 feet. This means you can hear everything going on in the room next door. The villa is set up as a Balinese compound. There is one way in with a large gate. The staff drive their motorcycles into the "lobby". Behind that is a sleeping area for the staff that is little more than a closet with bunk beds. The front gate is locked at all times and you have to get the staff to let you in and out. There is a bridge over a stream that leads to the main living area that is open air. I assumed the kitchen was mine to use and they did allow me to use it, but it was also for the staff cook to prepare breakfast. There is a nice lap pool, but it didn't seem all that clean. The king suite is above the main living quarters and has to AC units. It is large and private. However, Balinese construction seems to lack a level and measuring tape. There were gaps in the walls and windows which allows critters to come and go as they please. There was absolutely zero privacy at this villa. ZERO! Like some of the other reviewers, I came down in the middle of the night to get a drink and found two strange boys sleeping on the sofa. Apparently it gets hot in the staff closet. I was terrified! The manager was all up in my business every day, and was hard selling the tours to the wood carvers, batik factory, and art factory. I booked in for two weeks and after one week, I demanded a refund of my prepayment and went to stay elsewhere.

    Charming but...

My first time booking a villa via Airbnb, I was a little hesitant about its location as my last time to Bali was over 10 years ago. Thank goodness for a wonderful driver we got through a referral, we arrived safely at the beautiful villa in Sanur. It was about 45 mins drive from the airport (in typical Bali traffic). The villa looked exactly like in pictures, very traditional Balinese, lots of carvings on gorgeous teak throughout. There were 3 rooms and all were spacious. The master bedroom had a partial outdoor bathroom with a rain shower. Living room was spacious and airy, just next to the lap pool, which was pretty well-maintained. The attic room was lovely as well, though a little dark after nightfall, and of course the narrow stairs can get a little creaky. A friendly, soft-spoken lady cleans the villas every morning at 8am, and she can prepare breakfast if you like. She was very attentive and keeps the place real clean. Sanur is a pretty quiet area while the hustle and bustle is in Seminyak and Kuta, so I would recommend only to travelers who don't mind an hour's traveling to most places. You do have to walk about 15 mins out to the main street where there are some shops and restaurants. There was also some construction ongoing next door and it can get quite noisy in the mornings from the school just opposite the property. An additional note, as the villa is pretty much in the outdoors, there were some huge lizards all around the villas. My friend also spotted a frog in the master bedroom. Not for those with a phobia for lizards!

Cosy gem of a villa .

Hi , I stayed here with my friend over the weekend and it is good value for money. The manager and her driver picked me up and took me to the airport at a reasonable fee, the villa is cleaned everyday and has a outdoor feel to it. For bali , this is a very comfortable villa and the television channels work , the wifi is good and if you want to relax and have quiet time, this villa is appropriate . It is a short walk to a local beach but nothing like the beaches in seminyak. There is blue bird taxis waiting there so it is easy to find taxi to the main shopping street. The location of the villa is five minute walk through alley way to main ngurah rai road. Very pleasant short stay :) thanks nana and andy!

    Bad suprise

Booked at Angel Villa but we were moved to joy beach. Location is 15min walk to restaurants. Villa looks nice at first glance but needs a lot of maintenance and isnt clean. Pool cannot be used at all. We have had several power outages due to bad electric system. I would not recommend to stay here !!
