  Tranquil spot to appreciate Tokachi's hot springs

  One of the most impeccably clean room that I have seen, Kangetsuen makes for a tranquil onsen vacay stay even if it is just for one night. I stayed in a regular Japanese room that was lined with soft tatami. The room looks spacious enough for three people to sleep comfortably in with thick futon mattress stored away in a hidden cupboard. I love that how the room was compartmentalise with the toilets kept away from view from a sliding door. The bathtub is too small to soak in but this is an onsen hotel, so all the soaking should be done in the onsen (they are a sprawling indoor hot spring with Jacuzzi corners and an outdoor onsen!) The futon mattress was thoughtfully laid-out while I was having dinner at the hotels restaurant (one would be too drunk to do so after copious amount of beer at dinner). From the window, you can get sweeping views of the Tokachi river, which is simply breath-taking. Make time for the breakfast buffet, which features a mix of Japanese and Western breakfast items that are all well-cooked and has a good selection of ingredients. My favourite items are the marinated seaweed, salted salmon, baked sweet potato and tamogo, which went beautifully with the yam porridge. Place the food in a small buffet platter, which is perfect for preventing over-eating. This is the place to enjoy the serenity of Tokachis renowned hot springs.

  Wonderful hotel with a great view of the river

  We stayed 2 nights with this Ryokan and enjoyed it tremendously. The food and room was amazing. Highly recommend it. The new rooms with an outdoor deck was amazing. At the time when we visited, the place was not full and therefore it was very nice. The onsen was great.

  Perfect for leisure

  Situated 10 km to the east of Obihiro in a quiet atmosphere on the bank of Tokachi river, this ryokan is perfect for leisure. There are several types of hot water in public bath, which its area is comfortable and spacious. They have both indoor and outdoor public bath. Staff at front desk are helpful, especially staff who brought me to the room, she gave me a lot of suggestion & introduction. I also traveled on a rental van with family, there are plenty of parking space in front of hotel. Rooms are very clean, quiet and odor-free (in some hotel, there is odor even in non-smoking room). We got very fresh clean air from river side when opening window a little bit (luckily it was not too cold). I did not order room package with dinner set, so I was put in a dinner buffet room. Although there are quite a variety of food, I missed authentic Japanese dinner set.

  Don't let the exterior deter your visit

  The hotel is clean and modern inside. Outdoor public bath has a view to the river. Japanese breakfast is simple yet good. The staff is very friend and helpful. There is a post office just few minutes walk from the hotel. If you are a foreign and need to use your ATM card to withdraw some Japanese YEN. The ATM is in English. Will recommend people to stay.

  Tokachi-ohashi bridge

  This place is a little hidden so be sure to use the map code. Hotel signage is in kanji so take a look a the photo. They have the best air conditioning, I used the inside onsen but my family enjoyed the outside one. No attractions nearby so we walked over to the bridge and took some wonderful photos of the sunset.
