Beware the LandlordThe B&B itself wasn't horrible, kinda cheap and low-standard, 10 minutes walk away from the lovely Vondel Park - so far so ok. The main issue with this accommodation is the landlord himself, Gerard. Within 15 minutes of us arriving he'd blown the smoke of 3 cigarettes in our faces and expressed his dislike of Hippies, Students, Italians and Americans before assuring us that he'll "never rent to a Muslim". As mentioned the room and facilities were acceptable, but Gerard and his rules weren't: this man banned smoking in the bedrooms but the rest of the building stank of tobacco (non-smokers would choke immediately), also he had strange rules about the lights never being on longer than 10 minutes at a time, and had alarms that went off on his smartphone if the bathroom door was open. In short this landlord treated the guests as if they were robbers and kept alarms and motion sensors on all the time. He also demanded that we lock BOTH locks on the outside door on way in and out, which since they required keys and the windows didn't open properly, is a most likely a fire hazard. So this man puts the "security" of his building over the safety of his paying guests. Luckily for us he left on a business trip during our stay and was a replaced by a less uncouth assistant (she was rather nice actually) - but had Gerard and his crazy rules been there the whole week i think we would have seriously considered going to another hotel. It's not that cheap either, so only book this place if you think you'll enjoy the company of a complaining, smelly, racist, smokey landlord who's a stickler for rules. Don't go.

Nice place and great ownerCalm place not far from city center. Big rooms are neat and comfortable, nicely equipped with all necessary amenities. Owner is very friendly and welcoming, always willing to help, give advice and make you great coffee. We really enjoyed our stay here.

What you see is not what you get! When booking at a place called 'Bed and Breakfast' one naturally assumes breakfast is in the deal. Not so. Change the name then. Having got over that disappointment, the facilities, though clean and ok, are not what we expected. The hotel has just two rooms but you have to share the shower/loo and small room with a sink. Not ideal. Also rooms were not serviced so beds not made, coffee etc not refilled (but available on request after 9am when proprietor arrived - from 6pm to 9am there was no-one around at all). On the plus side, our room was very nice and well appointed with many pleasant extras such as guide books and DVDs to inform and assist our sight seeing activities. The proprietor is welcoming, provides a good coffee, maps, tram info etc. The location is handy for the tram, a short ride into the centre and is in a quiet area. On balance, would not stay here again because a) not en suite b) nobody around, just in case, at night so felt a bit vulnerable.

Cozy spot with easy access to city centerSpent two nights here recently on a trip in Europe. The owner, Gerard, was both very helpful and very friendly, always making sure we had everything we needed for our stay in our rooms, and always made sure we had plenty of room amenities, snacks and water. The room was clean and comfortable as were the bathroom facilities. Great location with easy access to the city center of Amsterdam as well. Tram stop was just a few blocks away and goes directly into Dam Square and other sites in the city. Neighborhood was also more quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Would suggest to anyone who wants to stay a little out of the downtown area, but still have easy access to downtown. Enjoyed my stay and certainly would look to book with Gerard again next time I am passing through the Amsterdam area.
