Not what I expect from a Marriott Property

Sorry folks, this place is run down. Our King room with a balcony was no bigger than a Microtel room for a heck of a lot more money. We did find the staff to be friendly and helpful. Tim at the bar is excellent. By the way, dont waste your money on a room with a balcony. You cant go out on it. Note that the sliding glass door to the balcony only opens 4 inches for ventilation only... the Brick Salt restaurant located inside this property has good food and good service. The building needs to be updated. Not worth the money in my opinion. The location isnt what it used to be. The mall is dead and the homeless/druggies wonder about making it uncomfortable to walk around even during daylight. The bus station is a block away.

    Disney on ice

Stayed here before on business trips to CWV. Not exactly best Marriott Ive stayed at but had the best front counter especially Andrew who was professional, courteous and always helpful. Walls little thin so enjoyed two toddlers next door who were upset but I countered it by recording the stupid Facebook kazoo commercial and placing it on a loop while sleeping with headphones of the ocean. Just kidding....about the Kazoo

    Clean and Close to Airport

Our room was large enough and clean. Not a glass or plastic cup to be found. Also, the housekeeping staff missed a few other bathroom items. We got there late one night just to catch a flight the next morning so we made due with what we had. The bed was comfortable and the noise level was quiet. Tried to open the door to the very small balcony but it doesn't open. My husband said "They don't want guests jumping from the balcony." Is that a thing in Charleston? Short ride to the airport.

    Don't judge a book by it's cover

This hotel may look like an old motel from the highway, but it is far from it. The lobby was exceptionally clean and inviting. We traveled during COVID and I felt very safe. The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful. She was knowledgeable about the area and helped us to find dinner with COVID precautions in mind. We didn't want to interact with people and possibly be exposed, but we needed to eat. The room was clean and safe. The only reason I didn't give full stars is because the air conditioning was hard to work and seemed to not work. We hated that we couldn't try the restaurant as it was closed. The menu looked inviting. Parking was great as they have an attached garage. You do have to come back "outside" after parking, but we felt safe. Yes there is a parking fee. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and yes from the highway it looks like it could use a great coat of paint or a good wash but please stay here.

    A Closed Starbucks is worthless

I have been to Marriotts all over the world. This one lists a Starbucks in the lobby, and has numerous ads on the premises about the hours for their lobby Starbucks. However, at 9:30 on a Sunday morning, the Starbucks was closed. If you have numerous ads featuring the open hours of your coffee shop, you have two options: have the shop open to conform with the information provided to customers, or change the ads! To compound the poor management, we were told that we could walk to the local mall when we asked about the closed coffee shop! I realize that in the time of Covid, we all need a little extra patience from one another. However. this is management 101: abide by the information you provide your customers. This is a large hotel in the state's capitol. The rooms are a little small, and the facility is a little dingy. The television was rather small. On the other hand, the room was neat and tidy, and the bed was superb. The woman who completed our check in was excellent.
