Beautiful place with such potential but........I actually wrote a review before, as did our friends that we were travelling with, and neither review was published on the website we booked with - in fact we noticed, there are few reviews around February which I believe is suspect. I really hope the place has improved since then, but because I've been disappointed a number of times recently, I feel I must start to redress the balance by sharing our experience on tripadvisor, as more and more I'm left feeling disappointed. This is the reason I am writing again, so much later on....here goes: OK this place is beautiful! The bungalows are great and the location is lovely with a fantastic white sand beach immediately to the right of the property if you are looking out to the sea. The problem was the service, especially the manager and his treatment of his staff, which ultimately affected everybody's stay there. It was coming up to the Vietnamese New Year celebrations; Tet, and many staff had gone to visit family leaving no one to work in the Hotel including the manager, who on a night when the Hotel and restaurant was full, was nowhere to be seen. That night, there were only two staff working front of house; a waiter and the receptionist, plus the cook and the washer-upper both of whom had been working non-stop since 6am that day. We waited over two hours for food and the place was deathly quiet as around 22 people seethed with anger at the situation. Our poor waiter told us he was quitting the next day, as he said that the manager was dining with his family that night even though he knew that they were short staffed. It was a joke! The following morning we went down to breakfast to see the manager being lambasted by several guests, but it still took over an hour to be served and he just didn't seem to 'get' what customer service is all about. The staff themselves were lovely, but out of their depths and very underpaid it seems, which is terrible when a room costs close to £100 a night. I spoke to him myself and he just kept blaming his staff which was very saddening, as they are only ever going to learn with the help of a skilled management team. One example; I ordered a bottle of wine on the first day and it took 50 minutes to arrive as they had to find the key which was with the said manager who was out fishing with his little boy. I do hope things are better a few months on as it has such potential.

It's all about people! This resort is actually called "Phu Quoc Eco Beach Resort". I don't know why it appears in tripadvisor as Orig Resort. Rooms are proper and clean and the beach is really beautiful with azure sea, palms and white sand.. BUT: The service at this resort is abysmal. Most of the staff (even those at the reception) do not even understand basic English and are not willing to take care of the needs and wishes of the guests. The worst is that nobody from the management is accessible at any time to solve problems. Food is uninspired and of low quality. Portions are ridiculously small. We ended up walking to neigboring Mango Bay everyday for dinner where service and food were in stark contrast to here. Furthermore, during our stay we tried to figure out what the "eco" in the name of the resort stands for, but we couldn't find an answer. Conclusion: With its prime location and beuatiful beach this could become a great resort, were the staff and management completely replaced by a competent and professional team.

Nice hotel in pristine beach location totally off the beaten trackThis is now the Phu Quoc Eco Beach resort. It is in a secluded location in a very quiet part of Phu Quoc. It's on a Private beach but just at the side is a long virtually deserted stretch of beach and it's like going back in time. The hotel is only accessed by a dirt track and to go anywhere at night requires a torch but its worth it. I read many comments on here about poor service but I found quite the opposite. The staff are locally hired and try really hard and are really genuine. I had a beach front bungalow and it was rustic but so relaxing and right in front of the sea.Nice breakfast but food on the whole was average.

Beautiful setting with Great staff! Can't ask for more. Stayed here 3 nights over Christmas and it was the best hotel of our two week trip. Sitting on a great beach - best beach any hotel is on that we saw in Phu Quoc (and we checked out a lot of resorts when we rented a motorbike). Cua Can is probably the best beach on Phu Quoc, very big and clean, but there's no resort on it. Che Carol also has a very nice beach, but Eco Beach Resort has a perfect sized and very clean beach that gets Amazing sunsets. Plenty of chairs and hammocks for all the guests to be laying out and not crowd each other. And if you're not into the sand they have a beautiful infinity pool overlooking the ocean! And the wifi works everywhere, even the beach. The staff is attentive throughout the day bringing drinks, food, towels, etc. Just perfect place to catch sun and relax all day. The location I think is perfect, it's away from Duong Dong and all the hustle, but not too far - it's a $10 taxi ride, about 15 minutes. And there's a Great restaurant a 10 minute walk down the road - Sakura. As well as a few other resorts if you want to try a different bar (we actually wanted to stay at Mango Bay as 1st choice but it was booked - we went there one night for the sunset and are very glad we stayed as Eco Beach, Mango Bay is a bit more "rustic" with more trees while Eco Beach has more open areas and looks I think nicer rooms). And the staff are all SUPER helpful. All their english is good enough to sort out whatever we needed, from food to airport transport, to renting a motorbike (and teaching us how to ride it since we never had before), to helping us with a wound after I crashed the bike and gave my girlfriend a burn on her ankle. And they put on a big Christmas Eve dinner with entertainment which they put a lot of effort into and had lots of good food and got all the guests to mingle a bit and gave us a lot of laughs. All the food, including the free breakfast, was quite good, nothing Amazing but all good. As good as any hotel food I know of. If you want to stay in the middle of town and walk to bars and the nigh market then stay in Duong Dong. If you want a quieter vacation where you can taxi to town a few times but mostly relax and enjoy some beautiful quiet scenery (and rent a motorbike to go explore) then Eco Beach resort is Perfect! Best value I've ever had, ever. This place would go for probably $300-$400 a night in United States - and more over Christmas. Can't recommend enough!

Beautiful spot, nice people, really poor foodThe location is wonderful, as was my bungalow. Given the climate you're bound to see a few bugs but housekeeping was great and everything is kept clean. As others have said, the staff really do try - there's room for some polishing but they are very receptive if you ask for help. I hate to say it, but as the resort seems to market itself to an international clientele and the "international" language used is English, it would be good if language skills were improved a little. I also saw some staff working at 7am and still at work at 9pm, which makes me wonder about their working conditions. The biggest issue is the food. It's overpriced for Vietnam but that would be fine if there was quality...but it was almost uniformly poor in my 4 days at the resort. I don't eat seafood so it could be there were some good dishes I missed - the balance of the menu appears to be aiming for Western-style food, and there wasn't a single dish which I would call good. I tried a beef stir fry - it was a grilled thin, cheap slice of beef so stringy I had to put in some serious time flossing. No veggies other than a piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato. I tried another beef dish (beef with honey - per the server, a Vietnamese dish) - similar to the first but this time the meat was a garbled mass of grizzle, fat and some stringy meat. The accompanying rice was clearly old - dry and re-heated. The only chicken options are chicken wings. I finally gave in and ordered pizza - the cheese was clearly processed cheese slices melted on top. Gross. On the other hand, the breakfast is fine. The potential of this place is enormous, if they could fix the food issue. Don't try for Western food! If you offered quality Vietnamese options I'm sure it would make a world of difference. BTW - my bungalow had air conditioning so perhaps others do now as well.
