    A Little Gem in the Heat of Salem

    The Holiday In Salem, Oregon is a little gem close to the downtown area and Willamette University. The rooms are comfortable and have ample storage. Each time I've stayed, the rooms and bathrooms have been immaculately clean. The staff is professional and very helpful. The other gem, in this hotel, is the restaurant. The first time I ate their, my family and I had dinner on Christmas night. I wasn't expecting much, however, I was pleasantly surprised. Our server, Tiffanie, was wonderful. She knew the menu was able to guide my vegetarian daughter and husband to a perfect meal. I has the salmon, which was excellent and cooked perfectly. Their drinks were a great surprise. I had the margherita (peach with jalapeno). Wow, it popped. I had had only 3 drinks that year, but at this hotel I had 2 so my total went to 5. The atmosphere, drinks and food made for a really nice Christmas dinner. Tiffanie was so pleasant and sweet, she made our night. We had travelled 9 hours and were really tired. She was a nice boost to our spirits and made our dinner a 10 out of 10. If you visit Salem this is the hotel and restaurant to stay. I hope you get Tifannie, as your server. You'll love it.

    This is the place you want to stay!

    So far, so good. Very friendly front desk staff. Warm welcome greetings upon arrival. Even though we were a little early, room was ready for us to check in. Finally, Holiday Inn got it right. No bathtub!! Only a shower. Much more room and the bathroom feels bigger too! Yes! This is the way to go. Let those travelers request a room with a tub. The rest of us will hop into a shower. One again, Holiday Inn is the industry leader. Outstanding service went hand in hand when we had a tiny hiccup with the breakfast vouchers. No worries here-Dan, the GM was on it and cleared up the miscommunication with grace and professionalism. He couldn't have been more accommodating to us! This property, it's GM and all the staff are the benchmarks upon which all Holiday Inn hotels should look to as their example of excellence.

    Former Red Lion now Holiday Inn has had a huge facelift!

    Holiday Inn came in this past year and completely renovated. The check in area is competely moved to the right of the main entry, updated, modernized and there is this gorgeous high back red couch next to it. It's a perfect accent piece and it's comfortable as well. Fresh bright paint everywher

    Great stay!

    Excellent staff and service. The rooms are quiet and very clean. I'm happy I chose to stay at such a clean and friendly hotel! Convenient location as the hotel is right off of I-5. Most guests are staying as evacuees during the Oregon Wildfires and the hotel has been nothing but helpful! The hotel even went above and beyond to provide the guests with FREE dinner!

    Not clean!!! Horrible smell, bad area!!

    We stayed at this hotel the first week of October 2020. I gave them the opportunity to resolve this and have spent hours on the phone trying to get some resolution from the hotel manager, no response no return call nothing. Multiple promises but no follow up. First let me start with we stay at Holiday Inn ALOT, And Ive never had an issue with our rooms. We booked our room for 2 queen beds for a 2 night stay. Upon arrival to the hotel at approximately 430/5 oclock we were informed that they did not have a room for us. The employee looks in the system for about five minutes and finally says I think I have a room. I was relieved as all the hotels in the area were full. When we got up to the room there was a strong odor in the hallway and as you enter the room the odor was even stronger. Best guess is that it was some sort of chemical smell like bug killer or repellent. It did not smell like cleaning supplies or anything of that nature. It was overwhelming and smelled honestly disgusting. The carpet looked like it had not been vacuumed there were wrappers on the floor and the carpet was horribly stained. The bedsheets had hair on them when you put the top blankets back, and the air vents had huge clumps of dust falling out of the ceiling vents. I immediately went back to the desk and asked if they could change our room and explained the issue with the smell and the cleanliness of the room. He said sorry but that was the only room he could find for us. I dont believe theyre cleaning staff was there he said he could have somebody from maintenance go up to the room but that was all he could do. I asked if he had any kind of air freshener or possibly a frebreeze. He left, checked and came back and said he couldnt find anything. He apologize and was very nice but he said there was really nothing else he could do. He told me I can offer you a discount on your room or you can try to find another room in town and when my manager gets in the next day they can compensate it further. We really didnt have any other option as every hotel was booked in the area. We had just driven 11 hours and were exhausted so we proceeded back up to the room and tried to go to sleep. Unfortunately, we spent the night with little to no sleep. The smell was so bad it gave us all headaches, you could taste it in your mouth it was just gross. At 7 AM we went down to the desk and asked to speak to the manager I was told that he or she would be there by 9 AM. I asked again do you have another room and he said no we are all booked. He said youre welcome to check out and we will not charge you for the second day but thats all you can do. We luckily found another room at a hotel with a king size bed and a rollaway. I came to the desk at nine and asked for the manager the employee said theyre not here yet. I came back twice more before we left the hotel and still no manager. The young man at the counter said he would have the manager call as soon as he or she arrived. Lets just say Ive been waiting for two weeks and I still have not received any call from the manager. Ive called multiple times and no response. A few days later I am charged for two nights stay. I spent over an hour on the phone with their customer service department trying to get it resolved as to why Im being charged for nights I did not stay. I have called their customer service complaints department and opened up a case, I sent the messages via Facebook, and Ive called multiple times and left messages at the hotel. I gave them the option to try to resolve this before posting a negative review but as youll see in the photos The room was not clean and in this pandemic world we live in at a minimum you should be able to expect the room to be clean.
