  Never ever go there

  We got to Koh Phangan in feb this year to go to the full moon party and then enjoy the beautiful and calm Haad Salad for the rest of the time. Upon arrival at the reception on the day of the full moon they DID NOT HAVE any room for us!!!!!!! WTF!? We booked 3 bungalows for 3 nights probably à month and a half before going there and the entire process on booking went as normal and easy as ever. But just to make things worse, at the reception we met 3 germans encountering the exact same problem...and soon after we met a French couple that had encountered the same problem the day before! How can this place still be listed on booking?? And just to make it worse, the manager was a ridiculous liar that told us she had just seen our booking the morning of our arrival (what a manager hein!?) and that she tried to reach us about this... which she obviously did not... Being on the day of the full moon party, there were literally not a single room available on the Island and booking.com could maybe acomodate us on another island (Koh Samui) which is 45min boat ride away... anyway we choose not to follow this way and managed to negotiate door to door some very simple but confortable bungalows closer to the Beach. NEVER EVER GO THERE. This type of careless and unprofessional lazy people that can ruin great holidays. Hope booking will unlist them as it is very bad publicity for them too.

  Almost everything went wrong here

  I stayed on Koh Phangan for 2 months, and Reggae Village was the worst of my experience. Let me caveat that the staff is fantastic - but upper management was unhelpful and greedy. Here are some samples: 1. I was quoted 600-1000 THB for two month's electricity. However, they tried to charge me 2000 THB. Upon demanding the formal electric bill, the total was only 1200 THB. What a scam to ask for almost double that amount. 2. I was charged 400 THB for a cleaning I never asked or was quoted for. 3. They charge 50 THB/kg for laundry when everywhere else on the island charges 40 THB/kg; 20% lower. 4. Restaurant prices are that of a beach resort: 140-180 THB for a dish with rice. Similar (non beachside) prices are closer to 80-100 THB for the same. 5. The dog BIT ME! I'd known the dog for 6 weeks, and he was awake/aware when I pet him. Reggae graciously covered the medical expenses, but had the dog running freely just the next day. I later learned he's bitten many people in the neighborhood - beware! 6. I expect my rental to be safe and secure. Instead, I arrived to broken door/window locks. These were fixed, but shouldn't have been an issue to begin with. 7. Bungalow had broken television remote upon arrival. Fixed, but shouldn't have happened. 8. Bungalow had 5 broken outside lights upon arrival. Fixed, but shouldn't have happened. 9. I was told the patio table would be fixed; it wasn't. 10. Shower temperature was unpredictable. It was never hot; mostly cool or room temperature. 11. I asked for a fan weekly since arriving (to cut AC costs). I wasn't given one until 10 days before my departure. 12. I have a permanent stain on my bathing suit from their laundry service, which I've had to replace as a result. 13. Live music every Monday night until 2am, which is fun to join. But incredibly loud when home in the bungalow. 14. Bungalow had no storage. My bags/clothes were spread all over the second bed since there's no place to put them. 15. I was told consistently to get taxi serves from elsewhere in the neighborhood because "boss wouldn't let them drive one person only". 16. When asking the boss for help, I was told to "find the staff and ask them myself." Really? Consider, also, the time invested in resolving the above when I should have been enjoying a relaxing vacation. I sympathize with the staff who must work under these conditions. But in order for things to improve, management must realign their priorities and understand the importance of customer satisfaction. Pros: 2 minutes walk to beach, nice patio, good wifi

  Awful

  Out of our one month of traveling around Thailand it was here where we had the worst experience. Problems came up already during the booking process when we had to pay more than a half of the price for accommodation via PayPal. The lady came across very rude and was giving us very unclear answers via emails. We were supposed to pay a certain amount of money at the arrival and we were asked to pay 100 baht more. the lady couldn't explain why, but we insisted and ended up paying the correct price. For the whole time the lady and her colleague kept treating us like if we were bothering them with our presence. Our bungalow looked like a prison cell. Twin beds, not one double bed as booked. The whole room smelled weird. We were unlucky enough to also have very loud neighbours (group of young guys) playing music on max volume at 7am. Overall it was a really lousy experience. Do yourself a favor and if you absolutely don't have to, DO NOT STAY HERE!

  Great stay at the Reggae Village

  We were a little unsure about coming here having seen the old reviews below but my wife, son and I really enjoyed staying at the Reggae Village. The family who own it were so lovely and helpful picking us up from Haad Chao Phao and giving us lifts whenever they were going into Thong Sala. We stayed in one of the more basic rooms but it had a nice big balcony and was good value for money considering we were there at the height of high season - they have a range of other rooms to suit different budgets as well. The lovely beach at Haad Salad is only a short walk away. It is worth being aware that the bar has live music on a Monday night, the music's great but if you want a quiet night better to ask for one of the bungalows further up the hill. Every other night of the week was quiet and peaceful. Overall a great stay at the Reggae Village, thanks again to everyone there for your help with our holiday, we hope to see you again back soon.

  Good try

  Sad to say that the food here was not very good quality, nor was the listening skills of the waiter as I ended up with the wrong food. Finally when the correct food came it tasted awful, microwaved, chicken tasted like fish, gave to a nearby dog.
