  Stay on major street in city center

  Its better than you can expect for such budget (300rmb/nt). Entrance from Huahai road (near Citizen Flagman shop), walking distance 7-10 min to Xintiandi. Clean bedding and WC, quite garden. Rooms are not big.

  Scores highly for location

  We have stayed at Royal Court twice. Mainly for the location - quiet heritage square in the heart of the French Concession. Buses close by that run to the Bund and Old City and 2 metro stations within 10 minutes walk. Easy walk to Tianzifang, Sun Yat Sen house and Zhou Enlai residence. Hotel is inexpensive and basic, but clean. Avoid the breakfast and eat in nearby cafes. Staff were helpful. You have to keep in mind that this is really a hotel for Chinese, so no one should expect staff to be fluent in English.

  Excellent Value for Money

  The hotels location is excellent, only a few hundred yards from the main high street, meaning you have access to all public transport and shops. Room was very clean, and for the money we spent we were very pleased with our room. If you are looking for a budget hotel and a base to stay whilst in Shanghai, I would recommend staying here. Staff were friendly and helpful. Although there was a language barrier as many of the staff could not speak English, google translate was a useful tool. Breakfast was basic, traditional Chinese breakfast with dumplings, egg fried rice, noodles, vegetables, sausages and boiled eggs. Those that prefer a coffee for breakfast, then the location of the hotel means only a short walk to a coffee house. We were pleasantly surprised by our stay, especially for the money spent on the room and in comparison to other local hotels.

  Nice cosy chinese hotel

  Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Room is a bit small but cosy and clean. Breakfast selection is limited but have a self service fried eggs station. All chinese food though. Recommend for those who like chinese cultural arts. Located inside a small area. Entrance is not easy to spot. But location is good. 5 mins to subway. Lots of shops on main street.30 mins walk from the people's square.

  So enjoyed the Royal Court Hotel and recommend it highly because the service is high, and love it being in the area of Pudong. The front desk bumped us up a level, and I appreciate the door to door service and would recommend.
