Fatal, no volvería nunca.

All you need from a city centre hotel

Great friendly staff, upgraded room very comfortable, fresh breakfast, located in the middle of shops, pubs , restaurants and local castle. This hotel is Covid on it. Temp checks cleaning and table service. It takes a bit longer to get your beer or breakfast but then its the same everywhere. Definitely go back

    Lovely weekend

We stayed for two nights this weekend - the staff were very friendly and helpful and everything was very Covid-secure. We ate at the restaurant one night and the food was amazing, plus a couple of cocktails at The Crypt which were also delicious (I recommend the red velvet!). We were in a standard room (one of the ones that haven't yet been refurbished) and were really pleasantly surprised by how big it was, plus the very comfy bed made for a good night's sleep. Would recommend to anyone for a great trip to Lancaster!

    Last minute stay

So me and my partner were travelling back from Carlisle and we decided on a night in Lancaster before we went home and I booked this hotel on booking.com very last minute and didnt read the small print as we had to pay £100 deposit, but already spent £86 on a room with a bath as the pictures where amazing on booking.com, so I thought yeah okay why not lets just pay it. Anyway, we got to our room it was nothing like the pictures and it was dated very badly, I understand its going through refurbishment but the pictures where literally nothing like the room and after paying a £100 damage deposit on top of the £86 there was nothing in the room that was over £100 sorry to say.. I went and complained to the receptionist and shown them the pictures and told them I wasnt happy, its not like it used to be anymore, we cant stay out all night and get drunk and roll to the hotel and use it as a base we were literally in the hotel all night and only put for dinner. They understood what I meant, and then gave us an upgrade to the Dickens room, I wasnt expecting this, it was very comfy the bed but the room was still very tired and dated but it had character compared to the other room so we settled in this one as it was as shown on the pictures and we had a seating area which was great due to us staying in all night. The bathroom was appalling, I literally lost hope and I just put up with it. I think you should make people aware that the rooms showed on Booking.com are not available as usual as thats what the receptionist told me and make people abit more aware of the damage deposit. Other than that the bed was comfy like I stipulated and ended up having a nice sleep with an amazing view of the castle. This hotel is in a great location too right opposite the castle. Many famous people have owned this hotel such has King Louis XIV and Charles Dickens has stayed here! Thats what made the hotel for me in the end. Im not normally a complainer but this is the first hotel Ive stayed at where the pictures are completely different to reality.

    Night away

The refurbished rooms are much improved and the overall ambience of the hotel is better than when we stayed a few years ago - retaining the old lift system is an excellent feature, although clearer instructions on its use would be good. We ate dinner elsewhere, but the menu on offer in the brasserie looked tempting. We werent disappointed at breakfast, where we were served everything at the table by Rita who was very attentive - perhaps one benefit of the COVID restrictions as we were not able to serve ourselves! Disappointing that some items on the breakfast menu had been removed - would have been good to have had this highlighted initially. The Lancaster breakfast was excellent with tasty sausage and smoked bacon, portobello mushroom and crispy fresh hash-brown. Even the black pudding went down a treat with the hot baked beans and fried egg! Definitely worth a stay, excellent value for money & very handy for the train station and town centre eateries!
