First class Chinese food and hotel facilities

Sheraton Hotel Chongming Hotel is surely worth a weekend getaway, as well as a great venue for a executive team building. I was welcomed with a warm smile, and the room was appointed with all great amenities the Sheraton Brand is known for. The highlight however was the NienFeng Chinese Restaurant. A set lunch was served seamless and in style. I especially I enjoyed some of the Chongming Island fresh vegetables. Since the soil were the vegetables are grown is rich on minerals and hundred of years of settlements from the Yangtze River. The indoor pool has plenty if daylight and the kids room was well reviewed with plenty of families enjoy the resort type atmosphere. I am looking forward to take my family at my next trip to explore the island, nature reserve and discover the surrounding by bicycles. The facilities were spotless and sparking new ! Well worth a visit !

Stayed here a few times. Beautiful hotel, but less sutiable for foreigners...

This hotel is BRAND NEW. The rooms are of a good size, and of course everything is new. Beds are large and comfortable, and the bathrooms are very well appointed also. However, this place is in the middle of n o w h e r e. And once inside, you are a 'captive audience', meaning you have to eat, do laundry - everything there. There is nothing outside except village after village of empty (luxury) housing estates, for miles on end. No convenience store around (not even one in the hotel), and the local supermarket (a taxi drive away) had me wiping my feet on the way out of it (also, I was stalked like a shop lifter, ha ha). But - for me, the location was quite useful. Hence... Now, what lets this place down for me is both the food (and price of). Western choices are few and far between, and the food they did have, my colleagues and I all took issue with. Even if you ordered the beef burger with fries (the safest menu choice), the fries are so few - you can count them. The spaghetti bolognaise sauce - I think my little nephew could make with more flavour, and when I asked for a garlic bread with it, I got a raisin bread roll *rolls eyes*. A steak can take 25 mins, and I've even been denied a pizza, when they have a full commercial-grade kitchen and lots of staff to make it. And then there is the Chinese table manners to deal with. I shan't go into much detail, but if you've heard the rumours, then this is where you will see it all in action. Dressing gowns and slippers worn by guests (to be fair to the hotel they eventually put a sign up banning that), children loose and free running around / creating mobile chicanes, and I nearly lost it completely as I was eating, and a guy on the table right next to me put his BABY on the table, and began changing its nappy, as I chewed my food - right next to me! I very nearly lost it. However, they do play some up-beat Western-style house music in the main restaurant, which I enjoyed. And again, being an Asian hotel, you have to fight for your member perks - don't be fobbed-off, call the parent company if you have too. Transportation is an issue. Trips to and from the same place come with highly-variable prices. (The hotel did come out and tell-off one driver who was trying it on with me). You will not find taxis waiting for customers outside, and at night they can take 20 mins or more to order / arrive. Chongming local taxis will even refuse to take you to the airport, and the hotel limo is the cost of a night's room - and even then they won't come at night - even at that price!?! Pay the hotel in advance for your airport taxi / car, so you can get the amount on your hotel bill for proof of payment (if you need it), as you can often be denied a receipt by a Chinese taxi. Even when pre-paid - they will try to charge you the 'bridge tolls' etc, when you get to the airport. Just wave down a police car at the airport and watch the driver disappear... The main bar area in the lobby of the hotel is a missed opportunity of a money-maker, especially at these prices. No slim young Chinese girls await your order, no spirits left out to choose from (just a row after row of champagne bottles in the shelves - never touched in my opinion), and when you DO want a drink, they have to go find someone to staff it & serve you, then they disappear. What a contrast to the smiling bar girls I'm used to seeing in China, waiting to pour your next beer, and ask about your day. The pool area is wonderful. Very large, very clean, with multiple smaller / warmer pools at the side too. Overall I was very happy with the gym, but I thought the hours could have been extended a little longer, as I will use the gym at night, if I can. TV choices are lacking too, to say the least. Is the Sheraton really a Western brand? Their suites are lovely, it must be said. Less quality than a Marriott, but given they are new, with multiple couches, and 100+ sq meters, it makes a good space for meetings etc. So, in the end, nice staff, nice place, but not so great for a Westerner.

    Très bon hôtel

Sheraton was a step in our biking tour of chongming island and it has been the right place at the right moment. Pretty new Hotel, we could access the great big swimming pool and good size room with very good beds. Restaurant was good with choice of Chinese and western food with a good level of English from the staff. That was a good moment of treat in our biking tour.

    Amazing Stay!

We were looking with my wife for a weekend of relaxation, fresh air, and good food, we got it right! The hotel is new, room are spacious, excellent service, all the employees from top to bottom went beyond our expectations, nice, friendly and on top of that professionals. We didn't had the chance to eat in the Chinese restaurant but we keep it for next time as for sure we will come again to this superb hotel. The kids indoor and outdoor area are pretty good, our little lo loved it and the baby cot is just great. Special thanks to the young waitress, i forgot her name I am sorry. I encounter her many times, and she is just super proactive and very caring.
