Fantastic break in ScottsdaleThs hotel is wonderful a sanctuary inside the larger resort. Amanda was a wonderful Ambassador. When our first night reservation at Mowry and Cotton was for the wrong date, she and Whitney made sure to confirm everything. Amanda even scheduled us for a cabana on our last day at the pool which was so relaxing. On Valentine's Day the staff gave us a lovely hand designed card and a bottle of champagne. The Valentines Day restaurant recommnedation of Tocca Madre was fantastic. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The house car was always available. The room was nice only complaint was that it was "handicapped accessible" and the shower just had an old styled curtain. The shower didn' t have a shelf to put products (which are excellent Byredo brand). The staff from Art at Mowry and Cotton (one of the nicest waiters ever to Daphne and Sharon at the pool were wonderful. A final highlight was the spa which is one of the nicest I have ever been to as well as the tennis center which is world class. Next time I hope to try the golf course nad driving range when we come back.

Excellent getaway at Canyon SuitesWe stayed here in February, and by looking at previous recent reviews, things at this hotel are changing as the country learns how to deal with COVID19. We had a fantastic stay here in a one-bedroom suite overlooking the Canyon Pool. It was spacious and a very nice room. We had a bathroom and a half, and the main bathroom had a shower, tub, two sinks, and a separate room with the toilet. Everything worked properly, and there were adequate towels, toiletries and outlets. The bed was comfortable. The pillows were somewhat large, but my wife was able to get a smaller pillow on request. The HVAC system worked well, and the bedroom had a zone separate from the living room. There were outlets and USB ports galore; it seemed that every piece of furniture was wired. Wifi was included, and worked well. There was a balcony going the entire length of the room which would have been nice, but the furniture was uncomfortable without throw pillows, and the general feeling was unappealing. We rarely used it. The staff at the hotel were marvelous, and we found that they were eager to help. In contrast to the situation described in reviews from December, we found, to our surprise, that there was a breakfast buffet with coffee service from 6am-10:30 am in the Canyon Suites lobby every morning. This was delightful and uncrowded, and we had the option to sit inside or outside by the waterfall. The food was a buffet, but was put on plates by the staff wearing masks and behind a plexiglass divider. Everything was done quite safely. There was a printed description of how maid service would work, which was confusing and suggested that it would only be done every 3 days, but there would be a daily "light refresh". I'm not sure what that all meant, but it seemed that they came and made up our room daily, and did it unobtrusively and well. Valet parking was included, and the bell stand staff were friendly and efficient. We never waited a second for our car. They also had a golf cart which would drive us to the main Phoenician building if we were in a hurry to get to dinner. Otherwise, there was a fantastic walk through an extensively landscaped cactus garden which connected the Canyon Suites to the main hotel. There was also a hotel car that had pickup near certain restaurants, but we did not take advantage of that service. The pool at Canyon Suites was very lovely, made more so by the low occupancy of the hotel, especially during the weekdays. The staff, especially Sharon and Veronika, were fantastic, and brought us ice buckets of water bottles, towels, and umbrellas as needed. We ordered food, which came from the Kalio Kabob restaurant, and was generally high quality. The entire Phoenician Hotel grounds were lovely, and nice for walking. The other pool areas were much more crowded, but everything looked very nicely designed and cared for. The plantings and landscaping were remarkable, and views from the upper restaurants were breathtaking at night. We ate at J&G Steakhouse, Mowry and Cotton, Kalio Kabob, 19th Hole, The Tavern, and had drinks at The Thirsty Camel, and have submitted separate reviews for all of them. Overall, we found them to be good restaurants, but none were great regarding food quality. Unfortunately, because of COVID-19, the room was stripped bare of pillows and unnecessary decorative items, giving the room a sterile, unwelcoming atmosphere. Usually, when we get into a high-end hotel room, we feel bad about putting our belongings around the room, messing up the feng shui. In this case, our belongings make the room appear more hospitable, rather than less. I am dubious that removing a vase or bowl or throw pillow from these rooms really has any effect on COVID-19 transmissionbut were still learning. Overall, this was an excellent place to stay and unwind, and we would definitely return.

WOW! Could not have been betterWow what a treat this weekend was. It was so nice to see a full staff working in a hotel and the level of service behind the masks was impeccable. It is not often during a three night stay I get to know hotel staff as well as I did this past weekend. Jay, Chase and Derek at the desk left a lasting impression. Patrick Cody and Damien are at your service every single second of the way. I never even felt the need to call and request the car ahead of time it was up in seconds upon request. The breakfast staff each morning was on top of it and very friendly. YES I SAID BREAKFAST. It is not often through Covid have I seen a full hot breakfast served each morning. The lox, eggs and bacon were some of my favorites. The staff was great and took care of my 3 year olds request for donut holes each morning without even having to ask a second time. Ana, Vong, Ricardo & Pedro are just a few names of the warm individual welcomes you will experience each morning. With 60 rooms in house whether sold out or not, the staff here takes the time to get to know each and every guest. While the rooms and amenities were nice what makes this place special is the service. I hand this off to Amanda for doing such a great job leading her team to success. Thank you for a great weekend! We made it over to the main resort pool on Saturday where Elijah took great care of welcoming us to the pool as he was already busy in the first place but made it a point to stop what he was doing and lead us to a comfortable spot for the day. Heather was of great service and took care of us throughout the day. It was hard to leave but looking forward to returning already. Look no further whether the Canyon Suites or the main resort you cannot go wrong.

Peaceful Environs Except Noise Coming in from HallwaysI tried both the Phoenician and Canyon Suites back to back and was expecting the Canyon Suites to be the pinnacle of the overall stay. While nice, my overall experience at the Phoenician was better. The Canyon Suites was a little underwhelming. The Canyon Suites has one major plus over the main property which is that it's less crowded, most noticeably at the pool area. Aside from that, the Phoenician was the better experience in every way. During my stay I had dinner at the J&G Steakhouse. Service was very good and food on par with fine dining expectations. Breakfast is put on in the lobby area and the staff were incredibly gracious. I particularly enjoyed the smoothie. The major downside for me was the level of noise that comes in from the hallway. Even at the point of my room furthest away from the door - a lot of noise came through. So clearly I could discern conversation about a fellow guest applying Tiger Balm as a fix. As sleep quality is a major factor in a hotel stay - the noise from the hallways was a major downside. I stayed in a regular room - it seems elite upgrades are difficult to obtain given I have ambassador status, the hotel was full and I was staying just one night - typically that's been the perfect storm for an upgrade in my experience. It was spacious with large soaking tub though I think the name "Canyon Suites" is a bit misleading as it indicates it's an all suite property. Overall impression is that I'd return but would be more excited about staying at the main Phoenician property rather than the Canyon Suites.
