  Fantastic food and Friendly Service

  My family and I visited the George as a family of 5 at the beginning of August The food was exceptional, all really well presented and fab portion sizes, and all extra yummy! We were served by a young lady, I cant remember her name, long dark hair in a ponytail..and she was amazing! Nothing was too much trouble for her, including rescuing my daughters from a wasp! She was really friendly and engaged with my children well which helped us to feel at home, you could tell she really enjoyed the jobi she was doing and always had a smile on her face which was lovely to see especially during these challenging times! We were also really impressed with the measures they have in place for social distancing such as hand sanitiser on entry, one way system, table service etc. Will certainly be visiting again.

  Terrible service, terrible food

  Came here for breakfast with friends while travelling through and I must say never again. The service was terrible even though we were the only people there, the server was also wearing his face mask underneath his nose instead of the correct way, And mumbled the whole time. He had to come over twice to take our food order and never brought over water to the table even though we asked. And it just felt awkward to sit there. 3 out of 5 of the meals were incorrect, eg sides missing or just wrong order. I myself had a veggie sausage that was basically just mashed potato deep fried with peas and my friend order avocado on toast that was clearly guacamole from a tub. While the rest of the group ordered the make your own full English and what they ordered wasnt what came, like bacon instead of black pudding or hash brown instead of a egg. Wont come back or recommend

  I visited The George on 20th September, I have been many times in the past and thoroughly enjoyed the food and service so had really been talking it up to my friends who I was with at the time of this visit. However I was very disappointed, with both the food and the service. Having worked in customer service myself I didnt quite understand why our service was so slow because as far as I could tell the restaurant itself was not busy at all! There were also a few mistakes with our food which I feel could have been resolved had there been clearer and more attentive service. Ive seen below that there are as many good reviews as bad so I hope that this was just a fluke, however may I make a gentle suggestion that you switch to a real vegetarian sausage.   Substandard

  Visited with friends on 20/09/2020 . The service was appalling, the gentleman serving us was unattentive and mumbling. After trying to take our order a number of times both on an iPad and failing that on a notepad we assumed the food would be correct. There was also no effort to repeat back the order to us, hence why 3 meals out of the 5 were wrong. At this stage we couldnt not muster the energy to complain and ate the substandard dishes just to get on with our day. The food itself wasnt anything to write home about either, particularly the veggie sausages and the poached eggs which both were left uneaten. Finally its worth noting that although one way systems and other COVID-19 precautions were in place our server was essentially wearing his mask as a chin guard which was again rather disappointing Having been the one who recommended we ate breakfast at this venue I can safely say I wont be returning, nor embellishing the establishment with any further recommendations.

  Excellent stay

  Just spent 2 nights here, excellent stay. Room really lovely, very Covid safe,very welcoming, free car park and very convenient to Braunton & surrounding areas. Excellent value for money, room & breakfast included. Happy to recommend.
