    Above and Beyond

Just returned from a celebratory anniversary visit with friends staying at the The Old Rectory. From arrival to departure we were looked after with great care with excellent safe guards and procedures in place. This little gem of traditional Scottish hospitality is family run and the warm welcome from them and their small team in the present situation we are in was and is a credit to them as they they went above and beyond to make our weekend break very special. the rooms were welcoming and extremely pleasant. The breakfast was superb and we had both dinner and Sunday lunch which was excellent and great value. Four very happy people traveled home with the intention of returning very, very soon. Well done and thank you for making our anniversary so special. David, Marilyn, P.John and Julie.

    Friendly and Simple

It was a sunny day but there were no spaces under the gazebos outside so we were glad to be allowed to bring our dog inside and into the shade. Food was quite straightforward pub grub, but tasty pretty good. It has a very relaxed feel but maybe verged on disorganised at times - it wasn't clear if people inside were to order at the window or would get table service for example. Overall it was a nice meal out though.

    A pleasant surprise

I can only reiterate what others have said in other recent posts about the Covid precautions being taken. The owners and staff are being as diligent as possible. They are friendly, welcoming and extremely attentive. Room was spacious, very clean and tidy. Evening meal was excellent value, well cooked and tasty. Interiors are a bit tired but overall a great place to overnight

    Pretty decent

Stayed one night on way home after a few days further west. Great value for money. Though area is much cheaper in general than where we'd been. Obviously place is massively affected with covid precautions but the owners make a good fist of it. Food is pretty decent and seems popular with locals as well. Callendar is a nice little place to visit. May well return

A tired hotel with little appeal

This was one of 8 B&Bs we stayed in 8 days We were met by a rather brusque lady who was surprised we had turned up! The room was old and musty, with a damp patch coming down the wall. There was mould around the windows, and the room was old and tatty. The shower floor was cracked. The room was noisy, as it is on a main road. The milk in the room was off, so we had no tea in the room. The only saving grace was breakfast, where we were served by a very friendly man, who cooked a superb Scottish breakfast, and catered well for a vegetarian.
