  This place is in the heart of West Virginia University underground. They gave away our reservation; thankfully, we booked 2 rooms. Went for a family event states away. To be told you have no reservations after driving 8 hours? Unacceptable! Ideal for families of WVU students.....that is it. No amenities...just an awful experience! Have no reason to go back to West Virginia anyway. Thank God it was only 1 night.

  GREAT beds, great service and great location

  I love this gem of a hotel. Located right in the heart of the WVU campus, and decorated in WVU colors I feel like a student myself again. When I travel it's all about the BED and these beds are fabulous! Super comfy. The gal at the front desk treated me like a friend, what a sweetheart. The room is super clean as well. Great find - and such a value!

  An awesome place to stay!

  We were looking for a place to stay while on a College visit, and this was awesome. It had a WVU theme, with colors and pictures of buildings from the campus hanging throughout. It was very clean, the bed was comfortable. You were close to the transit system that takes you around the college campus. The host were very nice and were always willing to help with any issue you had. John took great care of us and Kailyn was awesome too. We would be happy to stay here again!!

  Has potential to be better. I would honestly give it 3.5 but I'll be nice and give it a 4/5 instead of 3/5

  Stayed 3 days. Had difficulties booking on 3rd party website so had to call them. They did set me up with a room with one king sized bed. They don't care about number of guests. After getting a confirmation email, it said to call or email Shanna with any questions. I emailed her and 3 business days had pass and she had not responded. I had a busy 3 days and did not have time to speak with management about that issue and the others I found in my hotel room (small but addressable). For example: Fire alarm chirping every 30 minutes or so. Toilet reservoir kept leaking causing it to fill every 30 seconds. Sink had good water pressure however, drain could not keep up. Bathroom fan did not work... (sorry babe). My mini fridge had a hole in it causing cool air to leak out. Lamp bulb near window was out. Elevator was humid and stinky with no air movement. A/C in the room worked well. Piece of trim was also missing from the A/C. These were easily correctable if i had contacted management... however house keeping should have noticed the toilet issue and refrigerator not staying cool. Management still have not responded to my initial email and so I would take 1 star off and .5 for the fixable issues noted. Other gripes: garage not connected. so you had to go up and down stairs or steep ramp. Plus side: Huge TV, cleanliness, friendly staff when checking in and out, good location

  High value option for staying in downtown Morgantown

  There are not many options for staying in downtown Morgantown. The Scholar Hotel is one of those options by providing efficient, clean, and good value lodging. Staff are welcoming and helpful. If arriving by car, either park along Chestnut Street (a one way street) or pull into the entrance (off to one side) of the adjacent parking garage, prior to check-in. Bring in your luggage during check-in as there is no elevator in the parking garage; only a narrow stairwell (likely difficult to carry heavy luggage down these stairs). The parking garage building is very cool for those interested in automotive history. The building is a dHumy Motoramp built in the early 20th century. Maneuvering in the garage can be a little tricky due to its old design. The stairwell in the garage could use some fresh paint and be resurfaced to modern day standards. The public areas and halls inside the hotel are clean and pleasantly decorated; WVU colors, themes and photographs are prevalent. Room size and layout (ours was a King size bed) is fairly typical of most similar hotels. The carpet seemed thin or without padding. There was an echo-like feel to the room and it was quite easy to hear others in the hall (could be a factor if the hotel was full). No curtain on the window; however, there are two shades (one daylight blocking; the other a light screen which you can see through). The bed was comfortable as was the climate control system. We thought the wall attached nightstands are too far from the bed. We also fumbled constantly to find the nightstand lamp switches. Very small fridge in the room; large wall mounted TV. Very unique sink (we felt though it was a bit low). Ample hot water and pressure for a shower. There is a bar in the lobby which is open until midnight. The small gym is open/available 24 hours. Housekeeping was very good. We stayed on a Monday evening so outside/exterior noise was nonexistent. Overall, we felt this hotel provides clean and basic accommodations in exchange for a reasonable price.
